Vishu Festival Treats

Yesterday was Kerala's Vishu Festival and my boss, his wife and I went to Madinat Zayed Shopping Center for lunch to try their authentic Sadhya.

I have been associated with them for over a decade hence I already adapted and enjoy their food. I love South Indian Tali food though my boss is from Hyderabad. I am not sure if I have eaten Hyderabad authentic food as I have already tasted most of the Indian food. But yesterday's feast let me tasted their different types of dips which are all tasty and flavorful.

Vishu is the astronomical new year festival celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala. I was told that it connotes the completion of spring equinox, their harvest season. They are preparing colorful auspicious items and eating a special meal called Sadhya.

Sadhya is a feast consisting of a variety of traditional vegetarian dishes usually served on a banana leaf in Kerala, India. It is a mix of salty, sweet, sour and bitter items.

In traditional Sadhya celebration people are seated cross-legged on mats and food is eaten with the right hand without spoon and fork. Being Filipino, I also know how to eat using bare hand so I also enjoyed eating.

There were 2 / 3 types of rice but I chose plain rice as the other dishes are already tasty. It was served with 3 types of curries including Sambar, it's a soup type of food poured on top of the rice which I also enjoyed. There's also a yellow type of soup, heard they called it Dal?!?! ~not sure though~ which is also tasty.

There were 4 other dishes, one is fried bitter gourd - tasty but too bitter for me (well, I know it should be bitter 😅😅). Also Malunggay fruit mixed with ginger and carrots then Monggo beans which is a bit sweet that compliments the salty sauce with carrots and potato.

They also have 8 dips, love the sweet & sour taste of Mango dip, it has also yogurt, some salty & sweet dip with onion like Adobo, one was a bit spicy and the rests are also tasty but was not sure what are those. 😅

They also served 2 desserts, one was a porridge with Sago and Almond nuts.

I enjoyed the food and was a nice experience to taste their authentic food while enjoying their traditional Sadhya though we were not seating cross-legged on mat. 😅😅

Food are tasty so I recommend you to try and visit Ruchi Restaurant at Food Court, Madinat Zayed Shopping Center and share us your experience too.

If you have already tried their food, do suggest some dishes that I can try next time I visit.
