A Tour of TREDICI's Treats - Swellendam, South Africa
Hey Food Lovers!
The food quest continues!
Today I stopped in for the very first time to grab lunch at the Truly Traditional, Tuscan Styled Restaurant -" TREDICI XIII".
Lets take a little tour as we discover some of the tastes, treats and treasures that lay hidden within this Italian palace!
TREDICI XIII - A Baker's Dozen
The first thought I had as I approached the entrance was that I had been transported into my own action movie and had been sent on a mission to meet one of Don Corleone's distant family members.
Without a fitted suit, slicked back hair or one of those wristwatches that tell you when it's time to kick ass, I couldn't help but feel like I was a little unprepared for this mission... One thing I was armed with was a formidable appetite ready to devour the first meal of 2018!
On entry, the tall doors and high ceilings really allowed for some imaginative headroom but I was quickly reminded of reality as I caught a whiff of the intriguing European flavours floating from the busy kitchen!
The atmosphere was socially booming with the buzz of families & couples of all ages out for a bite on their travels!
The sounds of laughter & chatter mixed with the clinks and clatters of cutlery and orders being called out really made for an exciting restaurant environment!
We were welcomed with a smile and escorted to our table by the highly efficient manager - Gemma, who personally tended to us and intuitively arranged an epic table with a light breeze and a view as soon as it became available.
Service was quick and concise and before we knew it, our food and drink orders had been taken and it was time to explore the exciting relics, antiques and points of interest scattered throughout the venue!
Industrial-Roman-Style Chandelier
Leo's Fountain of Courage
There was an evident interest in various forms of lighting and the concept of time within the design pieces around the venue.
Industrial Lighting
These lamps were for sale along with some other interesting pieces ranging from mirror trays to rustic goblets for King's
An Old London Timekeeper
Mini Bed-Side Alarm Clocks
I satisfied my own obsession with time by grabbing some of the relics for myself!
"Like Sands through the Hour-Glass so are the days of our lives"
Beyond the awesome attention drawing pieces, the venue has loads of other areas to satisfy your interests be it a bottle of wine from a boutique selection or a little packed pastry parcel from their in-house bakery.
You could also treat your eye to a plethora of imported gifts, goods, trinkets or even some new kitchen weapons, tools and utensils to add to your own personal cooking inventory.
Before I knew it, the sands of time ran out and Lunch had ARRIVED!
Sliced Rare Sirloin, Tzatziki, Spiced Hummus and Sundried Tomato Pesto
Burned Sage Butter Gnocchi with Wild Mushroom Sauce
Creamy Chicken, Mushroom & Chorizo Risotto
Burned Sage Butter Gnocchi with Creamy Garlic Chicken Breast
After all that exploring and high-energy impulse buying we got stuck into our meals!
The Rare Sirloin Wrap was exactly that with a soft flour wrap, a crunchy combo of lettuce & tomato with the blend of Hummus and Sundried Tomato flavours keeping it light & fresh, yet still Italian.
The Risotto, was perfect in consistency with added cream for comfort.
Bits of Chicken & Mushroom with generous chunks of Chorizo add extra flavours to the sauce and even more so when combined into a single bite.
The two Gnocchi dishes were by far my favourite!
The texture of the little soft dough parcels were spot on as they melted in my mouth.
The Sage Butter Sauce was rich and sharp, ensuring salivation with the combined flavours of either the Melted Tre-Formaggio & Wild Mushrooms or the Creamy Garlic Chicken Fillet.
Which ever one you might choose, you're in for a new flavour fantasy for sure!
After a busy festive season of continuous indulging I seriously needed to take a break outside to let the food settle as I reflected on the year past, taking in the sights & scenery of the Overberg Mountain Range overlooking the valley where Swellendam is situated.
With another great food adventure coming to an end it was time to say goodbye to the lovely team of friendly staff that made it all come together!
Thanks again to the owner NC and the rest of the accommodating Tredici Team for genuinely great service, food & smiles!

Beautiful photos, that looks like a great place to eat. Is it expensive to eat there?
Great post, I would love to visit such a place. That gnocchi looks delicious. And where can you get a watch that tells you when it's time to kickass?
