Easy Vegetarian Chickpea Curry

in #food8 years ago

Tasty tasty chickpeas!!!

A favourite in our house - really quick and easy to make. Our three year old daughter loves it too and she can be a tad picky!

You will need

2 tins of chickpeas
1 largeish onion
2 cloves of garlic
2 Thai red finger chillis

1 tablespoon of paprika
1 heaped teaspoon cumin
1 level teaspoon coriander
1 teaspoon garam masala
Quarter of a teaspoon of turmeric
Pinch of fenugreek (Optional)
Tablespoon of soy sauce - dark
Half a tube of tomato paste about 100 grams
Pinch of salt

Some oil for frying

Some basmati rice or naan bread to enjoy with!

To make

Finely chop your onion, garlic and chilli.

Start frying your onion over a medium heat, don't stir too often, you want it to brown a little

Starting to brown

Once browning a little add your salt, garlic and chilli

Fry for a couple of minutes more and add all the powered ingredients.

Fry for a couple of minutes. Then add the tomato paste.

Stir it all in then add the soy sauce, stir that in and add three quarter of a pint of boiling water, it will bubble!!!

This post made me hungry. Going to try this tomorrow!

Excellent! I would recommend a naan with it!

A mi me gustan los garbanzos al curry. Muy ricos, se los dia a probar a mi mama y le gustaron! Solamente con cebollas salteadas, mantequilla y curry. Son sencillamente deliciosos.
I would like curried chickpeas

!mantequilla sería increíble¡

Yas indeed, coming up a storm!! :0)

That looks good. I have been wanting to try chickpeas.I'll have to remember this recipe.

It's a good one for trying them!

Looks great @meesterboom Im going to try this tonight, cheers!

Good show and thank you!

Oh, man, I LOVE chana masala! I love vegetarian Indian food in general, and this dish was my introduction to it, back in college. This would be awesome with a bit of mango chutney on the side. :)

Good thinking!

Yum! We love chickpea curries! But to make it even better, do not use chickpeas from a can. Did you know that you could soak and cook a big batch and freeze them for up to a year? We always have them ready in the freezer. Yet another can with preservatives and additives that can be eliminated from your home ;-)

You know I had never really thought on that? I am definitely going to give that a try, the more savings and less cans the better!!! Thank you!!!

I love chickpeas. This is quite similar to chickpea curry. Delicious:)

Thank you, it is indeed one and the same just with an easy quick twist!!

Looks great! Making curry at home is far better than the premixxed packaged stuff!

It totally is, I always find more made curries to be awfully sweet

Likely so they appeal to more people, you can always add spice and chili but taking them out is impossible.
