Cultural food : the small stories

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Hi community !

I like to cook some of my favorite meals, but also like to know the origins of them. I always find that funny and interesting.
It's that cultural aspect of food which interested me. For the cultural exchanges it could leads between countries, yes.

But mostly for the story of Humanity.
Something like Art I would say. In particular when you study Art history or by ourselves, without the need of a school lesson.
When you see a painting in a museum, you could know his title and his author. But if you go a little more far, you learn about its pictural movement and the origins of it, the way they proceed to paint it, etc.
You replace all these things in their own context and understand the "why". And if you compare it with other paintings of other pictural movement, you can start to understand the BIG BIG why, in terms of Humanity.

We could do the same with food :) :)

And for starting (I intend to make series of posts on this subject, with various meals from various countries), let's begin with this one I cook recently :

CHILI CON CARNE

For you, from which country is it from ?
If you say Mexico, you're wrong. It's Texan.
A mexican dictionnary from 1959 said "detestable food passing itself off as Mexican, sold in the U.S. from Texas to New York" (I agree with them, for the visual aspect at least. In the picture, it's look like I throw up in it loll)

That meal becomes very popular in the US thanks to its lowcost and its copious/plentiful. Mostly for cowboys who need that.

I'm like Jesse James !
It's said that the famous gunman always eat "a bowl of red" before attacking a bank. And he set apart towns who make good chili con carne :)

Another kind of modern Jesse James loll :

Thanks for your support !

It seems that there was an illusion made and placed in a bowl. Like.
