One Full Meal Only A Day. Do You Think You Can Do It?steemCreated with Sketch.

in #food6 years ago (edited)

I think I somehow heard from @dollarvigilante Jeff mentioned about his 1 meal a days "detox" before when I had extra time to chill and just curiously listen what his interviews were about.

But then when you come to a time you truly only challenge yourself to come to only spend about a dollar a day for food, and only one full meal (while you are still blessed with beverages provided in the office) will you able to survive it?

The last 2 days I have decided to restart my intermittent fasting once again after unsuccessfully losen up a few pounds after the Christmas turkey stuffing scrumptious experience through exercising and even planking.

Just so you know I am still doing it and I have survived for 16 days, although I actually take some day rests in between when I am too busy or woke up late; but if I am at the gym I will definitely won't miss it.

And yes I do have all the videos I just decided not to flood dtube with my boring 1 minute (sometimes a little over) recordings.

Is this fasting particularly work for me?

It turned out better than I thought.

Partly because the last 2 days and now day 3 today I have decided not to take a single drop of coffee during this fast and dug out this Korean ginseng specially flown all the way back from Korea as a souvenir to sustain me.

Interestingly when caffein is less in my system I actually manage to be more focused rushing the work I need especially during offline.

But that being said because of caffein depletion I actually became much moodier today, even though I had some matcha latte to help sooth my nerves.

I get extra edgy when someone chooses to snub with an arrogant tone; I can anytime blame the lack of coffee but I do realise that there is an underlying stress going on.

Probably the Food Bank stories are getting under my skin. If you haven't seen it check out their latest post - In Good Times, and Bad, Till Death Do Us Part.

Anyways, enough self pity and let's see what kind of once a day meal I have whipped up.

This tiny bowl of health actually comprises of (even though might not see it)

  • rolled oats
  • a tsp of organic tri colour quinoa
  • 1 egg
  • a dash of mixed herbs
  • a dash of Himalayan pink salt
  • a dash of pepper
  • a little bit of left over parmesan cheese flakes
  • a dash of red peprika
  • a dash of turmeric powder

I have actually come to accustomed to quinoa seeds end of last year when my boss overcooked her batch of quinoa and the "rawness" fragrance has gotten the best of her when she tried to have too much at one time.

And since I know one really got to get used to that green smell I have decided to mix it with the roll oats with a bit of garlic flakes.

The outcome I can say probably about 🌟🌟🌟 out of 5 in terms of taste but it did last a bit with a tiny aid of pineapple roll tarts my boss left for me.

(I seemed to be her "DBKL" these days haha... But hey let's not waste food)

So overall how much did I spend?
The egg was about 10¢

The roll oats probably about maybe 20¢, and the quinoa probably less than a pence since it's only one teaspoon.

I got about 100 gram of the organic quinoa for a little over $1.30 USD.

The rest of the spices and herbs have been there in my fridge; so even I really want to count them in it would be like maybe 10¢?

Overall it didn't cross 50¢ so if I'd make 2 servings it could still round under 1 dollar a day.

So how about you? Have you ever come across to a point that you have no choice but to only able to spend 1 dollar a day, one meal only in food and still able to make it properly as in as healthy as possible?

By the way, after 3 days I have lost about 500-almost 1kg, most likely a lot has to do with water retention too because I drank more water during the fast.

Until Then

Keep Calm and Eat Healthy

I think it is good to give the body a rest once in a while! Well done! I think most people eat too much anyway or eat for the wrong reasons..i.e. boredom, frustration... I'm sure you feel great! Coffee, ugh I had to give it up, it really ruined my stomach with all of that acid! I love Mate instead. Best wishes and good health @littlenewthings!

Oh I am sorry to hear that the acidic content has a bad effect in your body. That's probably the reason I still prefer flat whites or latte (minus the sugar) so that there's some fat protecting it.

The last 3 days fast ended with good result. I did feel better with clearer thoughts but also in spirit I could just stay sober from coffee. But I still feel my matcha latte has pretty much become a "cheat path" when I am feeling hungrier than usual, but overall the one fill meal a day is pretty fruitful when I allow my body to just be hydrated with water and non caffeine beverage just to allow the stomach to rest.

Some people would say, "oh I cannot" before they even started; and I too was once that but not allowing the body to understand that food is fuel not (addictive) pleasure (for the brain) is something marketing has ruined it haha.

Heh... I often end up doing this on tour... one big dinner and nothing else during the day... I hate eating when travelling, and so I end up NOT! However, a coffee is an absolute MUST in the morning!

Haha. One big meal at night is actually quite taxing for the body because at night time the metabolic rate is actually slower, and you might end up having reverse effect if not careful.

I do hope that when you travel even though it is only one dinner you'll choose to eat right enough for the body to absorb the nutrients otherwise the coffee is only going to sustain as much as just a drug boost for the brain but not enough nutrients to sustain it healthily overall in your body for the long run.

(we won't feel it now but when we reach the point our hairs start to grey we will realise that)

Lately, I start to notice that I'm not as young as I remember! I have to be more careful with what I eat, otherwise my stomach starts to rebel...

Nice!! I love the red package. I need to eat better too. Will try recipe

The red package is actually Korean Ginseng that my brother brought back to me and my parents some years back. It is less bitter than American Ginseng and still could have a good effect to stay alert.

I'm doing IF as well, only 2 meals a day, one heavy one light.

Nice I believe @awsomemianist as well. He's the expert in this. I broke my fast today since am with my parents but I did share with them about my IF and the good effects so they're more understanding if I don't take breakfast in the mornings during weekdays.
