Beetroots in orange sirup
I love doing this job of preservation of vegetables and fruits, they are of great benefits to health because they keep the properties when are homemade apart from the fact that I don´t need to use additive to preserve the food.
Salt, oil, sugar and vinegar with the apropiate techniques are enough elements to preserve food.
If you don´t know how to sterilized used tars go to @ladyfont Preserving food for difficult times - Conservando alimentos para tiempos dificiles
This time I am going to preserve beetroots in a sirup made with orange juice, but you can use pineapple juice too.
Ingredients
7 beetroots small
1 onion big
1 cup of orange juice
1 cup of vinegar
1 1/2 cup of sugar
We need alcohol and 1 tar
Procedure
sterilized the tar boiling it in a pan for 30 minutes
put the lid in alcohol 70%
- cook the beets and cut in slices
cut the onions in slices
place in a pan the juice, the vinegar and the sugar to prepare the sirup
put the beets and the onion in the sterilized tar
add the sirup still hot
put a knife inside the tar to let the bubbles to come out, sterilized the knife in alcohol before introducing it in the tar
clean with alcohol the edge before closing the tar
- take the lid with the kitchen's clamps and shake it till dry
- close the tar and place the tar in the pan with water up to the neck of the tar and boil for 40 minutes
- once ready after the 40 minutes and still hot place the tar upside down on a clean cloth, you will hear the bubbles going up, let it in that position till the tar is cold
- Labelled it and store in a fresh place
It is important to sterilized all the utensils you are going to use for preservation of food
