What's the origin of porridge? I guess I always thought that it was european. And as a follow up question, whats the difference between porridge and soup or a stew?

@jhermanbeans, porridge is that rice or other grains is main ingredients.
as for soup, I feel normally it mainly contains vegetables or meat.

Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated.

you are welcome..

haha, no problem ! ^_^

@jhermanbeans In most western countries, porridge refers to a dish made by boiling rolled oats in milk or water. I typically use a combination of milk and water to make porridge in the morning. It's very nutritious and cheap.

Soup is a liquid dish made from boiling meat, fish or vegetables.

Stew is similar to soup, but less liquid is used, thickeners are usually added and the dish is simmered for a much longer time, which results in the liquid turning into a thick gravy.

Thank you for adding to this. I know this sounds dumb, but I guess I always just felt like porridge was a fairy tale anachronism. Something magical bears ate, but that didn't actually exist. Gonna have to seek it out, and have some!
