Well-known Filipino Dishes That Will Make You Droll
Philippines was't only known for its richness in culture, likewise with the dishes that Filipinos can offer.
This time, I will make everyone droll for the foods I would be sharing to everyone.
Adobong Manok (Chicken Adobo)
I bet everybody knows about Adobo. It is the most popular Filipino food foreigners know. The most common meat for Adobo is chicken.
I cooked this simple Chicken Adobo as how most Filipino cooks this one, which usually has potatoes. The main condiments and spices were soy sauce, black pepper, garlic, onions, and vinegar.
Pinakbet
Let's go veggies this time with this popular vegetable dish called Pinakbet. This dish is very popular from Northern Philippines, particularly the Ilocos Region. Know what? Ilocanos makes the best Pinakbet in the country.
If you have eggplants, okra (lady fingers), tomatoes, squash, and the likes, you can already cook Pinakbet.
Atcharang Puso ng Saging (Banana Heart)
You can't just eat banana itself, but its heart as well. One of the dishes that can be cooked from it is Atchara.
This might look simple without the need of much ingredients, but it's not easy to prepare.
Tinolang Manok
One of the popular chicken dishes is Tinolang Manok. It was cooked in water, spices such as ginger, salt, and black pepper, and sayote or papaya.
You can also add chilli leaves if you wished to as seen in the photo.
Giniling na Baboy
This was among the meat dishes that's often sold in Filipino canteens. It's made of ground pork, green peas, carrots, potatoes, etc., and was cooked in tomato sauce and other condiments.
Others cook it on their way though depending on ingredients that they want to add.
Longaniza
It might have its Spanish origin, but it was adopted in the Philippines. Longaniza is small sausage which was spiced and was encased. It can be sweet or salty. Some province or cities in the country has their own style of making one.
This one is from Vigan.
Sinigang na Hipon
Sinigang is a popular sour soup dish in the country which was cooked in tamarind, camias, mango, or cottonfruit (santol). It can be meat, fish or shrimps.
This one is Sinigang na Hipon or shrimp. You can add vegetables on it.
Lumpia Shanghai
Lumpia Shanghai (also known as spring rolls) is very popular in Filipino occasions. It can either be meat or fish, with other ingredients as carrots raisins, bell paper, and other spices.
I made this lumpia shanghai with bangus or milkfish as the main ingredient.
Adobong Pusit
Squid (or pusit in Filipino) was often cooked as adobo. With soy sauce, vinegar, and other spices, it can satisfy your tongue with this kind of meal.
I often prepare this with slightly sweet taste.
Bistek (Beef Steak)
This is our own kind of beef steak. It can be cooked with a sauce, and beef were cut in strips.
One of our own ingredients is liver spread for a better taste of its sauce.
Relyenong Bangus
It other countries, they stuff turkeys. But here in the Philippines, we stuff bangus or milkfish. With its meat removed and deboned, it was stuffed with certain ingredients, the put it back to its skin and creates the same look of the fish, and fry.
I love how it was sliced, but did not disintegrate.
Kare-kare
Kare-kare is one of my favorites! It's a stew with thick peanut sauce, and might be added with meat, oxtail, seafoods, etc. Others were cooked merely with vegetables.
It's best with,alamang/bagoong (shrimp paste).
Pancit Guisado
Known for the term a for long life, pancit is a noodle dish which comes in different variations. The most popular is Pancit Guisado.
It has toppings, and my favorite is with lechon on it.
