Obesity and Cancer

I'm reading on Health, Hope & Inspiration with Rev Percy McCray that " According to a study conducted by the American Society for Clinical Oncology, obesity may overtake tobacco as the biggest lifestyle modifiable risk factor for cancer by the year 2030."

Wow that is amazing news. We all know that tobacco causes cancer, but obesity?

So I looked a little further and found that the cdc.gov says "Overweight and obesity are associated with at least 13 different types of cancer. These cancers make up 40% of all cancers diagnosed. About 2 in 3 occur in adults 50-74 years old. Most types of these cancers associated with overweight and obesity increased from 2005-2014. More than half of Americans don’t know that overweight and obesity can increase their risk for cancer. Many things are associated with cancer, but avoiding tobacco use and keeping a healthy weight are among the most important things people can do to lower their risk of getting cancer."

We all know that being overweight is not good for us, but here is a real reason for us to make a change and drop a few pounds. Start eating more vegetables and less carbs, more fruit and less meat.

If I can encourage you to make the first step to eating better and being healthier it would be to remove HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) from your life. Google HFCS and read the article on HuffingtonPost.com

Ready for more steps?

  • Drink more water.
  • Exercise a little everyday that you can. Gradually increase the amount and/or intensity of your exercise. No time? Then use the stairs instead of an elevator. Park you car at the back of the parking lot and get in a few more steps.
  • Eat more vegetables, find higher fiber choices (I love Wasa crackers with peanut butter), eat more natural fruit (not packaged).
  • Eat less carbs, sugar, packaged foods, junk food.
  • Sugar feeds cancer, so give up sugar and switch to honey. I have found that raw honey tastes delicious like honey used to taste.
  • If for some reason you eat something unhealthy don't dwell on it, just I start eating healthy again the next day.

I am not a Doctor, I just want to share some things that have helped me lose 60 pounds and I have now kept them off for 2 years. I hope this information encourages you to make a new start.

Blessings to you @irishgirl

I just saw this on my Feed. Glad I didn't miss it.

Raw honey is very hard to come by where I come from. And being hard to come by it is also very expensive. So I have started to use brown sugar instead of the refined white sugar and also Stevia. It's from the plant called Stevia rebaudiana, and its leaves are processed to make sweeteners. Although I still take in a lot of powdered ice tea (Nestea products) I compensate by exercising at least 3 to 4 days a week.

All the other points in the article are spot on. Except that I don't see any Wasa crackers with peanut butter in any of the supermarkets here.

Thanks for this article. It's a good reminder and push for me to keep up with my exercise and taking less of meat, and more on power veggies like cauliflower and brocolli.

Hi @gems.and.cookies stevia is good. Wasa crackers are a very high fiber cracker. They are whole grain cracker and are not particularly good by themselves, but with peanut butter they are pretty yummy.
