MONTE CRISTO SANDWICHS 📷 FOOD PHOTO SHOOT & RECIPE 📷
OK, enough of this holiday stuff, it's time to get back to serious business, and I mean it!! Are you with me?!
This sandwiches are intense,.. they have ham, turkey, lots of cheese on wheat bread, all of which is dipped into a batter and then deep fried. If you're not careful, it will hurt you. By the way, it may sound odd, but let me assure you that this sandwich is great with a raspberry jam dip. Also, some of you may enjoy a sour cream dip. My Mom goes for the raspberry and my Dad is the sour cream guy. It's okay, you can pick.
For all of you trying to start new diets and workout plans, I am terribly sorry for this.
RECIPE
Ingredients
1 large egg
1/2 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup all purpose flour
3 tablspoons cornstarch
oil for frying
8 slices regular or whole wheat sandwich bread
4 ounces thinly sliced smoked turkey breast
6 ounces thinly sliced Swiss cheese
4 ounces thinly sliced ham
powdered sugar
your favorite berry jelly
sour cream
Instructions
- Beat egg, milk, sugar, salt, pepper, and nutmeg together in a medium mixing bowl. Whisk in baking powder, cornstarch, and flour until smooth and set batter aside. Pour about 1 inch of oil into a dutch oven or wok and heat over medium heat until it reaches about 350 degrees F (180 C).
- Assemble the sandwiches by layering 4 of your bread slices with turkey, then cheese, then ham. Top each with the other bread slices and stack your sandwiches on top of each other. Now, this might seem odd to intentionally smash your sandwiches, but press them down and flatten as much as possible to help them hold together when dipping in batter.
- Cut each sandwich into 4 square sections. When oil is ready begin dipping sandwich squares in the batter and carefully dropping into the oil. Fry on each side for about a minute, or until golden brown. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon or tongs and place on a paper towel lined plate. Repeat until all sandwiches are done.
- Serve hot with a dusting of powdered sugar and a side of your favorite berry jelly and sour cream if desired.

Yeah, sorry about that. I did kinda warn you, maybe a little sorta.
I can't remember the last time I had one of these amazing meals. Maybe a few years back, but the melting soft texture with the light crunch and sweet flavor of the raspberry dip is unmatched! Great post, and wonderful shots. Upvoted
