A Valentine's Day Ice Cream Creation

A Bit Of Bovine Lactation Sensation, Plus A Recipe!

IMG_0834.JPG

The new ice cream maker has been getting quite a workout over the last couple weeks, but today's frozen dairy delight was a bit of a special endeavor. You see, my son and I have been planning a mother and son ice cream churn as our Valentine's Day activity, and my boy came up with the flavor of ice cream that we wanted to attempt:

Peanut Butter Chocolate Sandwich Cookie in a Vanilla Ice Cream Base

The name of the particular cookie that we used rhymes doorio (not a word), and as it was a holiday and stuff, I was amiable to allowing a bit of processed nastiness into the house.

While I was drudging away at the library this afternoon, my son painstakingly chopped most of a package of peanut butter filled chocolate sandwich cookies into perfect little ice cream worthy chunks:

He then did something completely unexpected, washed the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, and crafted homemade Belgian waffles for dinner! ARGH! I cannot even handle the feelz right now! It's a Valentine's Day miracle! Forget chocolates and flowers, I have a clean counter top and a dishwasher full of sterilized flatware! WOW!

Sorry, got a little mom-excited there.

So, as my spawn finished off the waffle cookage, I proceeded with the vanilla ice cream base.

IMG_0822.JPG

To start with I blended some whole milk and sugar in a blender until the sugar dissolved. I think about a couple of minutes went by, but I am not really sure, as I had to make some homemade waffle syrup at warp speed because we were out.

Then, I added some heavy cream and vanilla extract to the sugar milk in the blender and gave a pulse to combine the two additional ingredients.

My boy had retrieved the pre-frozen ice cream canister from the outer realm freezer by this point, and I plunked it into the ice cream machine, inserted the paddle, put on the lid, and fired up the little Cuisinart that could.

I think I churn, I think I churn, I think I churn, wooo wooo! (And yes, I made the "woo, woo" noises, I get excited about ice cream).

IMG_0827.JPG

I let the boy pour the ice cream base mixture into the running machine while I cleaned up some random waffle batter mess, and we both waited impatiently for twenty minutes of churning to happen.

After a painful twenty minutes, we both gathered around the ice cream machine and gazed upon the thickening cream-laden, frosty delight that had developed. It was now time to put the cookie bits in. I have to say my son did a great job at cookie adding, and then we waited an additional five minutes for maximum cookie dispersal.

The moment of truth had arrived, I stopped the ice cream maker, removed the lid, and gave the churn paddle to my son. While I scraped the soft serve consistency ice cream into a bowl for an additional two hours of freezing, I noticed that he was making absolutely no sounds at all. Surprised by the lack of utterances, I glanced over and saw him in cookies and cream ice cream euphoria. His smile as he exclaimed, "This is soooo good!" was the best Valentine's Day present a mom could ask for!!

Peanut Butter Filled Chocolate Sandwich Cookies Vanilla Ice Cream

1 1/2 cups of whole milk
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 Tablespoons Vanilla Extract
1 package peanut butter filled chocolate sandwich cookies chopped into bite sized pieces

In a medium mixing bowl or blender, add the milk and sugar. Whisk or blend until sugar dissolves, a couple of minutes will do.

Next, add the cream and vanilla, and mix. Don't mix it too much, you just want to combine the ingredients. At this point if you want to chill the ice cream base for a couple of hours, that would be a good idea, but it's not necessary.

Process according to your ice cream maker's manufacturers instructions, just be sure to add the cookie pieces in the last five minutes of churning.

Devour the sweet, moolicious treat that results!

Note: The ice cream will most likely be soft serve-like in consistency when finished churning. A couple of hours in the freezer will make the texture just right!

And as always, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's still drooling from too many ice cream pic captures iPhone.

Oh my goodness! I am definitely drooling over your latest nom posts @generikat! Especially now that I am trying to stay away from all sugar after my latest visit of my grandmother where she fed me all sweets imaginable. Haha.

Aww! Your son is adorable!

Uh oh! I am contributing to your sweet refraining torture! Your grandmother sounds a lot like mine, always trying to feed me all manner of sweets and food, but it sounds like you had a marvelous visit!

I am so glad to hear from you @m31, hope all is well:o)!

I was telling my mom about your ice cream maker , she asked to have it on the next event :D

I was waiting for another delicious recipe of yours . I rather have homemade stuff to know that I know what I’m eating

You hit on something so important there, aside from the fact that homemade ice cream tastes far superior to store bought stuff, knowing what's in my food is super important to me too.

It sounds like you and your mom will be enjoying some fresh churned ice cream of your own pretty soon, lol!

Ice cream made with real milk and cream? I'll yell woo woo for that! I do loves me some ice cream.

Well, I figured as this post was about the real stuff that you might be pleased:o) LOL! Wish we could have thrown a bowl your way!

Yummy:-)) love ice cream . Resteem, Upvote and followed.

Yes! Ice cream is amazing:o) Thank you so much!!

I got a real cackle out of the Mom Excitement part. Love it. But SO very true. Hugs are phenomenal as they get older, I remember that from my days with Mom as I grew up. But a clean kitchen? That goes way beyond WOW.

Such a fun post. It's obvious you're a great Mom. You're kids are lucky to have you. I used to tell my Mom all the time, "you're the best Mom I've got". She still appreciated it, even through my lame humor.

Thanks for sharing your Valentines day, it was fun and the usual comical romp through K'ville. Such a fun and special day. Happy late Valentine's day to you and yours from us and our'n.

PS. How do you make homemade warffle syrup? I'm sure you've shown it before, but it's easier (and lazier) to ask than go all through the 'bKat library. (Though it IS fun to go back and read the 'classics' now and then. When time allows. A great idea, and another 'some day' at this end.)

Hope your day after V day is a nice one, and there is some more homemade cookie ice cream left to imbibe and large-smile about. Sincerely, the H.S. in cast iron

Heh. I love your sense of humor dd! LOL!

Actually, I haven't done a blog post on my homemade syrup. Honestly, I love the real stuff more than anything, but in a pinch I throw some sugar, brown sugar, and water in a pot and bring it to a boil for a minute or so, then I chuck in some maple extract and a bit of butter, and voila! Fake syrup!

I'm so very sorry that it took me forever to reply to your reply. My progeny's basketball seasons wrapped up over the last couple of days and I have been trodding many a waxed wooden gym floor for the last few days. Yee Haw! Hopefully my favorite piece of domicile cookware is doing well? I sure hope so:o)

A Bit Of Bovine Lactation Sensation!!!! ohhh LOL, where did you get that? it is so catchy. I love the recipe for the vanilla ice-cream base, I think I will use some red velvet cupcakes that I have from yesterday, it won´t be the same but I dont have any peanut butter filled chocolate sandwich cookies

LOL! My brain just blurts weird sayings out, it is a family trait I'm afraid.

Red velvet cake chunks in vanilla ice cream? Sign me up! I need to go check your most excellent blog and see what you have been up too:o)

This sort of activity has my complete approval! Also the kitchen cleaning effort by the young 'un. Cool beans!

I am still in complete awe over the clean up the kitchen action without mom-struction. It was glorious!
