Today's Sustainable Chicken Noodle Soup Feast in the Garden of Eden
It is a beautiful fall day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!
We made a delicious feast for our volunteers today, cooking over fire using our handmade earthen rocket stoves in our sustainable outdoor kitchen! As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you.
We prepared a giant pot of delicious, hot, comforting, hearty CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP!
We've been making a lot of soups lately as the weather turns cooler. They are delicious, nutritious, and very easy to make for a large group.
Our soups often start with the same base: sautée onions, carrots, and celery for a few minutes until the onions are translucent.
Then we added the chicken! This soup is especially quick to prepare, because we had a lot of chicken left over from a feast earlier in the week. We added a whole cooked chicken to the pot, bones and all! The bones add a delicious flavor as well as a LOT of nutrition to the soup.
We covered everything in chicken broth and let it simmer. As the pot gently boiled, the meat fell off the chicken bones. Any little bit that's left on can easily be picked off with a fork or fingers.
We add lots of fresh garden herbs to the soup. It makes a deeper, earthier flavor and again adds tons of nutrition to the whole thing. Herbs are extremely potent plants with lots of healing properties.
Not everyone here likes to eat wheat, so we make the noodles on the side! Everyone is free to add more or less noodles to their own bowl as they like. Plus, the noodles don't get too soggy by sitting around in the liquid.
We used spaghetti noodles to day, because a) the children think they are fun, and b) we have an abundance of them.
It was a delicious, easy, and classic meal, and everyone got to eat as much as they wanted!
Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!
