Vistiting the Netherlands Blog 2!

For my second blog about the Netherlands it's all about food. Not just food! Dutch food! This is my top 10 of dutch food!

Number 10: split pea soup (erwtensoep)
We normally eat this in the winter and we call it erwtensoep or snert! There are al lot of calories in this soup. And the texture of this soup is very full and fat. In the soup are the following ingredients. Of course split peas, celeriac, leek, onion, carrot and pig meat. On top of the soup normally goes a Smoked sausages. We all this meal "snert met rookworst!" After a long day at work in de cold air this meal is her best. The rest of the evening you will have a warm feeling. A cant wait for the winter to come again 😉.

Number 9: fries with Peanut sauce (patat met pindasaus)
Not the fries but the peanut sauce ar very dutch. I can tell you, you must try this wen you are visiting. It is so nice! We also mix it with mayonnaise and the we call it patatje oorlog (fries of war). And wen you add chopped onion on the sauce we call it patatje oorlog met slachtoffertjes (fries of war with victims).

Number 8: spiced Bisquit (speculaas)
Spices biquit are cookies that are made with the following spices: nutmeg, clove, ginger, pepper and anise. The spices bisquit have a sweet tast and we eat it normally with tea or coffee. Some times we dip the spiced bisquit in the coffee or tea.

Number 7: kapsalon
Kapsalon it is the Dutch translation of barbershop. That's the history of the kapsalon. The meal is 10 years old. A barber in the city of Rotterdam had a very busy day. But than it was dinner time and he was starving. So he was going next door to the shoarma restaurant. He tells over there that he was in a hurry and that they can do everything on top of each other. That's how the kapsalon was born. It is fries on top of the fries shoarma. On the shoarma garlic sauce and sambal. Some cheese and salad on top. Then you have a meal of 1500 kilo calories! But you must try it!

Number 6: croquettes (kroketten)
Croquettes are a famous Dutch snack. Normally we eat it as a snack after fries. Sometimes on party's we eat the smaller and round one. The bitterbal. It's filled with meat ragout some people in the Dutch eat it with mustard on the croquettes and sometimes we serve it on white bread. This is also a must to try!

Number 5: herring (haring)
Herring I already named it in my first blog about the Netherlands, but it is in my top 10. Herring the Dutch way eat it raw! Harring has a soft texture and you tast the fat of the fish! The Dutch eat the fish by holding the fish at its tail and eat!

Number 4: Dutch Mini Pancakes (poffertjes)
As requested by @foodie.warrior Dutch mini Pancakes it is just what the name says. They are pancakes mini pancakes. But it is the Dutch way how we serve them. Mini and with butter an sucker on top of them. We also have in the Netherlands poffertjes restaurants. It's also a nice combination with ice cream on top of the hot Dutch mini pancakes! Also a must try! You will love them.

Number 3: hagelslag
Hagelslag, small chocolate pieces we mostly use as toppings on bread. We take a slice of bread with some butter on top of the bread an we sparkle some hagelslag on the butter. We also put hagelslag on top of our ice cream, whipped cream, crackers and other products.

image.jpeg

Number 2: bossche bollen
Bossche bollen it's a cake and we usually eat this on birthdays or other special moments. It's a round cake like a ball within the "ball" its filled with whipped cream. On top of the ball there is chocolate. Mmm....

Number 1: Syrup waffles (stroopwafels)
Syrup waffles the are so nice wen the are still hot. It's basically two flat waffles with syrup between them. Then it goes in a waffle maker after that you have a syrup waffle. Is quite normal for the Dutch but wen you here the tourists about them. They all say:try it!
