I see fresh goods and stuff you guys maybe could use to shoot two birds in one shot? While you go on your feeding programs perhaps you could also join this? Just in case you aren't aware there is also such a thing going on.
Here too, (am in Arnhem, far from Am) many food are not wasted - before they expire - they give it to the food banks but only the ones that are up to date. It doesn't last a day - that's a sad reality. I wasn't aware that they actually send them back to distributors because from what we know - most of the stores - send them as donations to the food bank a month before they expire. And from what we know - Am also has adopted immigrants so I wonder if the guy in the grocery store was just telling you SOP answer, too ;)
We eat salads every day from our abundant greens, so your food challenge looks inspiring! That's great to hear that in your area they are utilizing the "waste" food. There's more than enough of everything if we utilize our resources appropriately!
@gardenofeden, yes, many refugees nearby and food bank dependent so nothing really goes to waste - perhaps - in the wet market - sometimes, it's sad to watch that a fruit just fell and they just leave it - it could just be washed.
