Delivering Mexican Food Via Drones

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Drones are being used in a variety of creative ways in the market today, helping to improve the lives of many. You can find them engaged in services now such as delivering food and medication, or helping to fight fires, survey crops, or clean-up after traffic accidents.

It's not only private hobbyists who are looking to get their hands on drones, or government's interested in using them for military endeavors, but there are also dozens of commercial industries that have looked toward using this technology as well. And for many consumers, they are eager to see what the future holds in the way of drone deliveries.

Drones have already been used to deliver medical supplies, mail packages, pizza, doughnuts, and other items.

Drone technology has been regarded as being a detrimental technology to a variety of businesses who have acknowledge that they've seen a myriad of benefits result from its usage, such as improved productivity, efficiency, better customer relations, and more.

The impact for drone technology within the commercial market today is expected to continue growing for years to come and it's estimated that by 2025 it might be something around $82 billion or more.

There are various businesses that are already in the drone delivery space and one of them is Project Wing which happens to be an X Alphabet project. They are in the business of specifically building drones that will be tasked with making all kinds of different deliveries.

They are now in the process of testing deliveries for Mexican food and medicine in Australia.

Two companies that they are reportedly working with in Australia at the moment are the Guzman y Gomez Mexican food restaurant chain and the Chemist Warehouse Group.

The Chemist Warehouse Group is a pharmacy chain in the country that's known to be the biggest health and beauty retailer in the nation, with billions in sales every year. And the Mexican food restaurant is a well-known chain not only in Australia. Though the Guzman y Gomez store is predominantly known in Australia, it's also got locations in Japan and Singapore. Currently, they've got 67 stores in Australia alone.

The two businesses have agreed to start receiving orders that will be coming from the Project Wing app. Customers will be able to receive drone deliveries by ordering from either business through an app on their smartphone.

Both Guzman y Gomez and Chemist Warehouse Group will be engaged in delivery trials around the New South Wales region; specifically in the rural area known as Royalla. And they've already obtained the appropriate permission from authorities in order to go ahead with the project.

Owners at the Mexican food establishment, Guzman Y Gomez say that they hope drones will be the next evolution of food delivery, helping to transform current delivery channels and boost convenience for consumers; especially for those living in rural areas. In the area where they are testing the drone deliveries, it's estimated that those who live there on average have to travel for roughly 40 minutes (round trip) in order to get just about anything that they need.

The drones that they are working with are alleged to be able to hold up to 1 kilogram and they are able to travel roughly 120km per hour.

Man Australia gets all the fun lol first they were tested for delivery McDonalds and now this. This does seem truly awesome and Id love to have a landing strip for burritos on my balcony

Upvote for Burritos on my balcony!!!

lol!

I could go for a drone delivered chimichanga. But I'd only be truly impressed if they delivered margaritas too. Alcoholic beverage delivery via drone would be so amazing.

haha YES to that chimi!

@doitvoluntarily very interesting post. Drones are useful but in many ways these are more dangerous because these are affecting our earth and sky too. Well how is Drone controlled flying in the air through remote control or automatic operating system?

Thank You 4 Sharing DiV...

It's amazing how many things will be done by drones... the world is changing faster than we can possibly imagine.

When I lived in California, went to the Palm Springs area once a month during the winter. They have natural hot water spas that are really rejuvenating...

Cheers !!

This is awesome. Take away delivered by drone! There was a delivery company that would deliver to my sofa but unfortunately I dont live there any more.

Thanks for the great post @doitvoluntarily would like to see some drone development in the building industry

I hope they can make it across the ocean and deliver to Cambodia too hehe.

Sounds good but imagine all those drones flying around with takeaways. Bound to be crashes lol

that's what the trials are for, to experiment with doing it in a safe manner :)

I'll take an order of flautas, beano, and your best antacids!

One of these days I hope drones become a more mainstream way of dealing with local delivery. It is way low cost, and should theoretically be much quicker due to "as the crow flies" directions.
