what do you think of eating grubs as a sustainable food source

in #food8 years ago

Our planet Earth can sustain 5 billion people; not the current seven billion. Today we rely on genetics and technology to create hybrid food sources. Sooner of later these new strains of food crops will fail due to unsuspecting mutating diseases or pests adapting to these newer different types of food sources.

Today most people rely upon fish, pork, beef or chicken (add in a few Turkeys etc.) as primary protein food sources. In fact this is huge business, however with the loss of other reliable places to create profits for shareholders companies have moved into markets like food sources since they are essential to human life.

Food being mandatory to life gets more expensive every year per percentage of a persons living wage. This means people spend more on eating even before they start over paying for scams such as organic marketing techniques. More money wasted on food equals less money people have to invest in themselves nor into the economy.

Regardless people need to consider alternative food sources. Did you know that sewerage water can now be made cleaner and more hygienic and less contaminated than some plastic bottled water you can buy ? Everyone thinks they are staying healthier with bottled water and 99 % of these same people would never consider drinking reprocessed sewerage water...

People in certain countries happily eat snails or slugs simply because culturally they have been educated and adapted to the fact these local food sources are a key ingredient in their diet toward maintaining good health. Other places eat goat eyes, kangaroo tails; i suspect you have heard enough : )

If we could pile up all the wasted food humans have thrown into land fill rubbish piles over the centuries and not have it decompose since it is organic we cold have build a highway to the moon in distance. This shows we have a problem of sourcing a healthy reliable sustainable food source and how to remove left over organic waste, no longer can we continue to just bury the problem...

Enter worms and grubs, compost worms will consume almost their own body weight daily of organic material, plus you can eat these manure worms. They are totally free of illnesses and diseases and can be cleansed of germs prior to consumption. Simply grow your worms; once they are fully mature harvest them into a container and place moistened oatmeal in with them for a day. After one day they will have cleansed their internal organs and then move the container to the refrigerator, this puts your worms to sleep and stops that gagging feel as you try and swallow them : )

Seriously; date night has never seemed so opportune has it ! ! !

Who knows about BSFL Black Soldier Fly Larvae are possibly humanity's best answer as a quality food source into the future, worms are marvelous at reprocessing waste into a quality protein source and truly people should be eating far more worms than they already are. Simply going to the supermarket to buy food is wasting your hard earned gold and by making some minor changes you could actually save enough to use those saving for your future.

But our hard working worms have nothing on our BSFL these babies are able to reprocess things worms cannot and they are simply much more effective and much faster in doing this reprocessing. Imagine the protein one pig contains, we call it pork since people would probably gag if they thought they were eating pig, its a cultural thing...

That same amount of quality protein it takes at least 9 months to feed chemicals and antibiotics and hormones to your edible pig could be provided in less than 14 days by BSFL. Plus our BSFL will eat many clean sources of waste and trash a pig would never consider grubbing down on. Unlike the pig BSFL are immune to pests and diseases.

Isn't time you reconsidered your fundamental beliefs in this brave new age modern world and started to use the information age to your advantage; go on, think about it and get a grub into yah ; )

Great post always a fun topic, Cheerz

Reading a survival book by Lofty Lang this man was a Commando in the SAS Special Air Service for 25 years. In Borneo on a long range patrol a monsoon swamped their local environment and removed all local food sources as all their supplies were washed away.
Five days of eating local white snails; luckily the torrential rains kept hostile forces from ever trying to find them, five days later the helicopters could come evacuate them. . .
What a way to make a living : )
