Cookies for the Neighbors

We are good friends with our neighbors and there are quite a few kids on our cul-de-sac. I had the great idea to have Jacob make some cookies into fun shapes for the neighbor kids.

This turned into nearly a full day project, though Kristine did the heavy lifting while I held our daughter, provided moral support, and watched some football.

Kristine and Jacob started at about 9am by mixing the ingredients and beating them a bit. Once ready, they started rolling out the dough and Jacob began selecting different cutout designs for each of the neighbor kids based on what they like and their personality.

One neighbor boy got a train and a football cookie. One boy got a dog and a car cookie. One boy got a truck and a ball cookie. One neighbor girl, who is 1.5 years older than Jacob, got two different sized hearts. On and on this went for 7 of the neighbor kids.

Once the cookies were cut, they were baked in the oven which had to be done in batches. Once the batches were done and cooling, we had lunch and then Jacob took his nap. When he woke from his nap at 3, he finished the process by adding different colored frostings as well as sprinkles to each of the cookies. They all looked great!

Then came the delivery. At 4:30pm, Jacob started walking around to each of the neighbors and giving them their homemade and customized cookies! They all loved them! There were many thank you and even some hugs from the neighbor girls.

Jacob enjoyed making the cookies and giving them to his friends. I think it is important that he starts learning how to be kind and do nice things for others - this will take him far in life!

Now that I am writing this, I realize Jacob did not make me any cookies! It was my idea in the first place! Com'on Jake!
