Grilled Seitan with Rice & Vegetables - Recipe #1

The time has come to present you our very first recipe! Aris didn't want any part of it because it is vegan so us human slaves are free to publish it.

INGREDIENTS:

200g grilled seitan
150g rice
50g sweetcorn
1 bell pepper
1 red onion
2 tbsp olive oil
a pinch of salt
a pinch of sweet paprika
a pinch of dried garlic
a pinch of black pepper

OPTIONAL:

dry soup (bag)

PREPARATION TIME:

5 minutes

COOKING TIME:

25 minutes

SERVES:

2


As I said in the beginning, this recipe is VEGAN so everyone can enjoy it, no matter what food you prefer eating.

Starting out with the basics: you're going to need 2 pots and a wok pan. One pot is for the rice, one is for the soup and the wok pan is to stir and fry all the ingredients. So, let's go!

First, you need to slice the seitan in smaller pieces (as shown on the photo). Considering its color, it could probably fool a lot of meat eaters who wouldn't have a clue that it isn't meat. That's a great way to start the conversion to vegetarianism.

After that, you will do the same with bell pepper and grate the red onion (photo).

This photo shows how your stove should look like at this stage. So, in the left pot, we have the water for the soup. In the right pot, we have the water for the rice (lightly salted). Now, you will put 2 tablespoons of olive oil into the pan.

On this occasion, there wasn't much time to prepare lunch so I used the soup from a bag (this time it was Dalmatian soup, very popular in Croatia). Of course, make your own soup if you know how to or exclude the soup from the recipe, it's completely up to you.

Next, fry the oil in the pan in medium heat for a short period of time. Meanwhile, you have already put the rice in the second pot and it's boiling.

After the water in the first pot starts boiling, add the soup from the bag and boil it for 10 minutes in medium heat. (additional notes: the 10-minute rule applies only if you have this exact soup, otherwise read instructions on the packaging)

This is the stove now. After you have put the grilled seitan, the bell pepper and the grated onion in the pan (all at once), add in the sweet paprika, black pepper and dried garlic. Mix it all together with a wooden spoon. Keep mixing occasionally until it's cooked.

After 5-6 mins. add the rice and the sweetcorn. You need to drain them both first, of course.

This photo shows the current state with everything added to the mix. Naturally, you can always adjust the ingredients based on how many people are eating. This recipe serves 2 people (maybe even 3 if you're a light eater ha-ha). There's definitely enough soup for 3 people.

And there you go, there's your plate with the prepared meal, ready to eat.

Very easy to make, even if you're a newbie in the kitchen, very tasty and very fulfilling, even for a 91 kg/200 lbs male such as myself ha-ha. I would suggest it to all the people that are keen to try switching to vegetarian/vegan based food because of everything mentioned. My fiancée and I used this meal in the beginnings of our conversion to vegetarianism and I know it's going to be a great starting point for all of you to make the switch easier, especially if you have at least some experience in the kitchen. It is a great meal when you are out of ideas on what to prepare or how to show your meat-eating friends that your stomach can be really full even without meat ha-ha.

This looks delicious! I also would be very interested to know how to to my own Seitan. I haven't seen it on the market too often unfortunately.
