Oh! Calcutta - Restaurant review #2

Hey steemit friends! So on today's blog I will be reviewing one of the best Bengali restaurants in Kolkata. I have been there quite a few times now. Decided to go there with my girlfriend and another couple on a double date last day.

Oh! Calcutta is considered to be one of the best in the business bengali restaurants and you can feel why right from the moment you step in. From the fast service to the elegant decor, good seating arrangement, instrumental Rabindrasangeet songs playing in the background, dim lighting- it all just creates a pleasant atmosphere within it's walls.

Coming to the food we started with :

STARTERS:

THE BYPASS COOLER (Moctail) - a mix of lime and mint in fresh coconut water. We found it very much refreshing.

BHETKI FRY - Fillets of bhetki fish batter fried. The batter was seasoned perfectly and the fish was fresh and juicy.

MAIN COURSE :

DAAB CHINGRI - Daab chingri is a dish of tiger prawns cooked inside a green coconut with coconut milk. The creamy texture of the gravy and perfectly cooked prawns, a great combination indeed.

BHETKI GONDHORAJ PATURI - Only onething I would say, if you come here anytime then don't miss this item. It really tastes like heaven. It's a fillet of bhetki fish steamed inside a banana leaf with mustard.

CHITTAGONG MASALA MURGI - Again a very well prepared dish. Its chicken cooked in a spicy red chilli gravy. Would definitely be my recommendation.

BONELESS IILISH BHAPA - This great as well. This is basically Hilsa fish steamed in a tangy mustard sauce. The mustard gravy came in a different bowl than the fish itself. The down side to this dish was the fact that I paid 845 rupees ($13 USD) for just one piece of iilish which was of normal size.

CASHEW AND RAISIN PILAF - A perfect blend of kaju (cashew nuts) and kismis (dried raisins) with rice. I had tasted this kind of dish in many other restaurants but this taste is simply unforgettable.

DESSERT :

DATE PALM JAGGERY ICE CREAM - The best was yet to come and we didn't expect it would come in this form. Hats off.👍

MISTI PAAN - It's a complimentary item which Oh! Calcutta would serve you at the end of your lunch. It's a betel leaf stuffed with spices and sweets (no tobacco). Helps in digestion!
