The Crocodingo: North American Folklore

in #folklore6 years ago

The Crocodingo is a hybridized cryptid that is said to lurk certain areas of Tennessee. While no one truly knows when and how rumors of this strange beast began, the Crocodingo seems to have origins in the Civil War. Many Confederate soldiers passing through Union-sided Scott County in Tennessee reported sightings of these part dingo, part crocodile.

As the name suggests, the Crocodingo has the face of a crocodile, with the typical elongated and many-toothed snout. However instead of having the typical reptilian body expected with such a face, the Crocodingo has a very canine body, resembling that of a dingo. Like the dingo, the Crocodingo is agile and quick, and a fierce hunter. The Crocodingo is a stealthy animal, sometimes the only warning sign that this creature is near is the flash of iridescent green eyes in the dark.

The Crocodingo is said to make a meal of human meat often, prefering to eat the face off of its victims first. It is also known to enjoy the taste of fish, and many Tennessee folk in the New River area were known to leave fish as an offering for the Crocodingo, hoping the oblation would keep the fierce critter away from themselves and loved ones should it have a belly full of trout.

Eat the face off its victims... yikes. The creature looks and sounds terrifying. I definitely would not want to run Into it in the forest in the dark.
