Estonia, Halliste 1888: Day of St. Matthias (Madisepäe). On this day all the insects (matikas) and snakes have to crawl away to their dens, that's why this day is also called the day of funerals (matused).

Also important for Madisepäeva lahing (Battle of St. Matthews day), which marked the beginning of 700 year long christian/german occupation.
