Taraxacum officinale is a species of the Asteraceae family and is known as a "weed" despite the fact that its leaves have many medicinal properties.
It is a perennial plant with a primary root that usually reaches 40 cm in height and its stem always remains in an extremely shortened state and are called acaules.
These are hermaphroditic flowers of a golden colour which make it easy to identify the flowers which flower in spring until the end of summer.
It is easily found on roads and is considered a weed by gardeners.

It is also effective for cleansing skin impurities, acne and hives.
Its wild leaves are edible, those that are young and tender are preferred for salads while those that are ripe are eaten more bitter and cooked although the existence of crops for this purpose is not confirmed.
The bees also visit their flowers, delivering a good quantity of nectar and pollen. Thanks to its almost cosmopolitan distribution, it is known throughout the world by beekeepers.
