Even if you think flagging is wrong, sometimes, you can do good using it!

in #flagging7 years ago (edited)

I have seen lately, that @smooth start flagging few users that were on trending page for a while every day and for months, and my first impression was that I can believe that he is doing this. The users as @krnel, @sauravrungta, @gavvet and I think also @dollarvigilante they all get flagged by @smooth for the same reason:

Downvoted, overrewarded due to concentrated whale voting

To be honest, at the beginning I thought that he is just rude, but after I saw @craig-grant post that you can find it here, it start to make sense to me and I think that's a very good reason why @smooth is using his power to downvote those users.

I know that there will be a lot of people who will not agree with this, but, I think this is the best reason why people should use a downvote.

The reason why @smooth start downvoting those users that were too much on trending page, is a good reason because, are so many other people on this platform that provide a
high level of value and we miss them because whales are using their SP to vote those users and few others every day.

I know that they still doing a good job, nobody says otherwise, but they should accept other people actions even if they do not agree with them.

The only reason why I'm not totally 100% to downvote a post to reduce the rewards, is because that might affect the reputation of the user. If there will be a way to skip that I think it will be amazing.

As I said above don't hesitate to take a look at @craig-grant's post because it will be very helpful. You can also take a look at @krnel's post if you want to see how he feels about the downvotes he get from @smooth

P.S. It will be a long post, but I respect his opinion as much I respect everyone's else opinion.

Sort:

On the whole I agree that people should be free to cast their votes in whatever way they feel will help the greater community. I got one of those downvotes, and I'm pretty much "nobody" here... and the downvote had nothing to do with my content, and was purely a response to someone else's upvote... apart from which it wasn't even a very well-paid post.

It's one thing to want to genuinely help a community be fair... but another to cause "collateral damage" to bystanders as part of a private war.

That happened to me too.

I'm not making much money here, ya know?

Not real money. I got flagged because one of my posts happened to get popular. This doesn't happen commonly, because I'm just a writer, not some celebrity. So I ended up not being able to buy a tomato that week. I mean, that's the level of difference here.

Either my salad has tomatoes, onion, and peppers.

Or it has onions and peppers, if someone decides to make my day a little more cloudy and sad.

@heretickitten I feel you and your right, but sometimes your salad is much tasty if you split it with other people you know? I respect your opinion and I think that someone will come up with a brilliant idea that will fix this kind of problems we have here.

Yes, if I choose to split it with someone, it is great.

When someone says "You don't deserve that entire salad. It needs to be reallocated to a random person.", that is much less savory.

Fair enough!

It gets even worse when a person, a rich whale says, "Here Kitten, have this apple."

And another whale says, "Oh Kitten, that article was good. Have this pear too!"

And I'm sitting there, literally starving because my wallet is so tiny, when someone else comes up to me on the one day I finally have a feast, and goes, "You don't deserve that pear! Give to me now!"

And then they cruelly take it, leaving a poor kitten to cry.

Heheh, or something. I guess this is kinda dramatic, considering the context.

I'm not really much of an authoritarian socialist.

I believe in helping people who need help on a voluntary level, which is why I might very well use my Steemit earnings to buy dinner for a friend or something.

But I don't like people taking my earnings as if to punish me for my success.

I understand your frustration and you are absolutely right on that, but what can we do? They have more power than we have and we can only use our words to defend ourselves and I think moving one is the best option!

Yeah, gotta just press onward through the misery and pain.

Yes @denmarkguy, I saw that so many times, but how can we stop other people actions? We just have to accept them and move on, hopefully, somebody will come with a great idea to stop this kind of abuse.

Excellent post @the-future, this is the intra-voting scam which essentially keeps the steem all tied up in the whale community on poor content and causes the value of steem to drop because there is no decentralisation.
Good stuff gets loads of votes (often 1-5% - stupid in my opinion) and no rewards. It is the harakiri of steemit.
We steem away! Steem on.

It is the harakiri of steemit. :)) I like how you put it and I think that it really is like that. Anyway, it seems that the other users didn't realize it, yet. Thanks for the excellent comment my friend, Steem on!

I'm with you on this one. I saw some reasoned comments about it and how the flag is just the opposite of an upvote and I agreed. The posts often targetted are usually from authors who earn a lot of money from each post and perhaps if they feel it is an issue they might think how it is for other users who post equally as good content if not better and rarely see posts go into double figures.

That's true, are really a lot of good content out there and they are making cents, while others are taking a lot. Is not fair, is not right and is not helpful for the new users that join steemit. Thanks for your feedback and your opinion, I really appreciate it.

And I appreciate what you are doing too muckeroo!! :O)

:))) I like this! Cheers man!

Thanks for your insightful meme! Well done!
