Flag Flogging on Steemit - What Does It Mean?
It seems to be quite a past-time for quite a number of Steemians. Some of them also seem to be liking the pain, having expressed their deep thoughts on the rather intimate activity, sometimes even wanting more for themselves despite the discomfort. For what it seemed to be a simple device for signalling disagreement and limiting payouts, it sure looks evident now that it might be tapping into our unexplored subconscious. Perhaps that's why 50 Shades of Grey is so popular.
(Flag)ellation (Latin flagellum, "whip"), flogging, whipping or lashing is the act of beating the human body with special implements such as whips, lashes, rods, switches, the cat o' nine tails, the sjambok, etc. Typically, flogging is imposed on an unwilling subject as a punishment; however, it can also be submitted to willingly, or performed on oneself, in religious or sadomasochistic contexts.

Mainly S&M terminology, flogging is to use a whip for sexual enjoyment.
"He stood spread eagle against the wall, waiting with anticipation as the Dominatrix held her whip ready for flogging."

Nasty.. just plain nasty. Perhaps the icon should change. Here's a prototype..
But, why not a cooking pan instead? It's way funnier and a great comic-relief.
Anyway, back into biznus. Please check out @timcliff's recent post on the proposed changes to flagging. This is the only serious part of this post.. thanks for checking it out you nasty people!
My Opinion: Personally I'm okay with it. The flag button is there, and it's part of the design. Honestly, IDGAFOS. Anyway, maybe something could be done about it. Downvote maybe, or just let people get used to it. Objection is part of life. So far I think most whale flags are sufficiently justified.. the only problem comes when it is used randomly.

In reality, as the site grows larger, people are going to use the flag as a downvote more and more often as that is what they are accustomed to doing on other sites. In a way I think people are making much ado about nothing when a small account flags them. Some people, like the one account doing a bunch of flagging are just "assholes." And their fun is getting the reaction that the community has been giving.
Yeah self-regulation at work.. it's just the implementation / approach of such a tool that could be tested. Maybe there even needs to be several types?
The benefit of being in beta is it gives the devs the time to really experiment with things like that. We could always try a different solution and see how the community feels about it. There is no shame in trying and reverting back to what we have now if people don't like a potential change to flags.
Great imagery and a cool way of bringing light to a serious subject - having been flagged twice yesterday (100% success rat eon my posts) by a flag flogger I did not enjoy the feeling.
They like to inflict pain, don't they? What's to counteract that as inflicting back sort of will make their day?
Hmm I got it too but didn't care about it. It's a double-edged sword that newer accounts have less influence when voting / flagging. It doesn't help good community members to rise up more, but at least it's keeping autoflaggers / randomflaggers at bay..
How about @ transisto? He's flagged me without reason and I loss $1+
@transisto has mentioned in @timcliff's post (link in post) that they're not agreeable towards certain elements. And I wouldn't say loss, because the payout hasn't been finalized..
Totally agree with you. I got flagged once yesterday.
Lol, got flagged twice yesterday but didn't feel the pain! Got really pissed off actually, as it was my first time :)
I know you enjoy it.. @norbu xD
haha, maybe I will "cultivate" a taste if I keep at it!
This should go to humor tag :))
Lol thanks - just added the funny tag. Don't know if humor is being used well enough.. since there's another spelling for it - humour !
Is that brit or american? Depends :)
Hi @kevinwong
Thanks for sharing...I just recently posted about the same issue here and made reference to your post...well i also like the cooking pan hahaha
I think a good solution will be coming soon :)
I think it is so stupid people want to abuse the system this way, I got flagged for no reason at all.
Well the button's there. Someone's gonna press it sooner or later..
LOL thats true, I did for the first time today on a comment, had nothing to do with the post at all, and the person is ranked like 2 or something. But I would not use it for spamming!
Yesterday was my first! I hope I am not developing a taste for it :O)
Lol. Find your calling on Steemit !
It just seems a bit shitty that there are people out there who have created bots for the sole purpose of randomly flagging content.
Lol a long time ago I upload a botscript that says the 4-letter word once every minute on a website. That's all it ever does..
Ya, he/she always flagging me too. There's more worse then him/her. Account @ transisto
