SHOULD WE SHOW RESPECT FOR THE AMERICAN NATIONAL ANTHEM?

in #flag7 years ago (edited)

A Nation's anthem as defined by Wiki:
A national anthem (also state anthem, national hymn, national song, etc.) is generally a patriotic musical composition that evokes and eulogizes the history, traditions, and struggles of its people, recognized either by a nation's government as the official national song, or by convention through use by the people.

American national anthem is a stark reminder of the monumental struggles and the eventual victory that promised us liberty and freedom towards pursuit of happiness.
FREEDOM is a big big word in the expanse of its meaning. Many of us feel that our freedoms have been choked, especially after 9/11. Personally I remember the country before and after 9/11. I feel the difference in my my bones and it chills me to my bones. Did we hurt millions for political gains? It saddens me to see the plight of many countries we got involved in. It saddens me to see the destruction, death and human suffering.

Yet most of us may have been forced to make the same decisions our leaders made if we knew everything that they knew. The preservation of America should be the ultimate task of the country's leadership. All I can go by is assumption. It is so because national secrets will remain unknown to us. I stay with the assumption that our best foot was put forward by our leaders and I leave it at that. Some of you may disagree and this post is not on that subject, so save me hateful comments.

Amidst the chaos of modern day politics and war, never fail to recognize, salute and show your respect for those that have guarded the nation in hostile fields of lead.
Our anthem represents how we achieved freedom. It represents those who perished. It represents the joy of our victory and our mourning of lost lives. It humbles us. It takes us back to the roots of this country.
I will always stand as tall as I can when it plays, with my hand over my heart.
The freedom that has been bestowed upon us is being used to disgrace the country. I stand offended.

Let your voices be heard if you feel the same.

I think the freedom to stand or sit during the national anthem represents the soldiers more than any forced or expected display. In this instance the act of not standing for the national anthem is aimed directly at Trump. Why pretend it's about soldiers who fought for our right to be free?

Those soldiers actually fought so that a government won't force us to act one way or another. Disrespecting/critiquing our country is a right many earned us through death. That right is something more sacred than a simbolic anthem in my opinion.

It they don't like Trump then say it ina more poignant way. Personally I am happy that Trump is the president as long as he does what he said he will do.

Given the reaction I'd say this is a very poignant way.

I agree!

Great Great post. 'O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave '. For freedom we are, for freedom we stand.

Should a bunch of cops sit on a black man's neck while he says he is choking?

Should that man have been killed, even though his only crime was to steal cigarettes?

Should the cops that did it have gotten away with it?

These are the questions you should be asking; not should some dude be standing while we sing a song that talks about freedom, yet doesn't want to afford those freedoms to everyone in the country.

If you want a free country, then anyone should be allowed to sit/stand/kneel/lie during your anthem.

If you want North Korea, then force people and punish them if they don't comply.

That's the thing with freedom, it isn't just about giving freedoms that you personally agree with.

Cop abuse is not against the black only. I think no matter what I say you may not agree. I am not supporting anyone or anything but the anthem and the respect it deserves.

Agreed, cop abuse is not always against blacks or minorities, and perhaps the internet has helped highlight and at the same time magnify the problem, however that doesn't mean that anybody trying to point it out should be vilified.

. I think no matter what I say you may not agree

I might not, however that's not a reason not to say it, I enjoy a good debate and want to socialise with people who do disagree with me from time to time :-) I think that's the only way we can grow as a society, by mixing with people who don't agree 100% with us.

So sorry if my reply came back a bit shouty and self righteous, I didn't mean it to be; honest!

...but the anthem and the respect it deserves.

The guy who knelt, posted a statement that he was going to sit, but decided to kneel as he felt kneeling was a sign of respect, while still protesting at what he feels is an injustice.

Just as I expected, you skipped the dog lyrics
"No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave..."
