🏋Mazzle's Getting Fit - Stop Weighing Yourself! 🏋

Your Weight Doesn't Matter!

I spend a lot of time telling people to lay off the scales. It's an easy measure when working towards a fitness goal and people always get the idea in their head that they should weigh a certain weight.

Oh, I remember the days when I weighed 60 kilos, it was amazing.

The only problem being, your physical weight is comprised of many things.

  • Your bone denisity
  • How much water you're carrying
  • Your muscle mass
  • And of course, the amount of fat you're carrying.

There are too many variables with your weight for this to be the sole measurement to rely on when it comes to a fitness target.

It's quite possible for you to weigh more than what you believe is your "ideal weight" and be at your best physical condition.

When measuring your progress towards your fitness goal, the best way to determine your progress is through physical measurements. And by this I mean actually getting out a measuring tape and measuring the circumference of your torso and limbs.

This is going to tell you a lot more about your progress rather than a number on a scale.

Want to dive deeper? Then spend a little money and get a Body Composition Analysis completed

This analysis will give you a detailed breakdown of your skeletal mass, your muscle mass, your water content and how much fat you are carrying. This type of analysis will also measure all of your limbs and your torso as well. This type of analysis will give you the best data that you can work with when working towards a fitness goal. So if you get this done progressively throughout your fitness journey, you can expect to have a fantastic understanding of your progress.

But what if you can't be bothered with this level of data analysis?

Then just go with how your clothes fit. And to be honest, this measure is really all that matters. If your clothes fit well, then you're quite likely to be feeling great as well. And that's all that really matters. If your clothes are tight and restrictive, you have more work to do, if they fit well then you're probably feeling on top of the world and making great progress with your fitness.

So keep up the great work and keep training!

How do you measure your progress towards your fitness goals?

How often should we measure ourselves? Weekly basis?

Weekly is too frequent. I would recommend monthly at most.

I need to remind myself of this. LOL.

Most people do :)

I completely agree with this post. Too many people constantly weigh themselves everyday when they try to achieve muscle gain or weight loss. Results take time, patience and consistency are key. Constantly weighing yourself ends up defeat and frustration, based on my personal experience!

I agree. I used to do this.

It's a shame that you prefer to self vote rather than vote on content that you supposedly enjoy.

It's interesting how weight really has less to do with it. All of those different things you list that come into play definitely monkey with weight. I've never been able to come close to what my body mass index says I should weigh. The one time I actually got down there after a couple of months of biking everywhere I felt terrible.

So, measuring once or so a month and making sure to lose more fat than muscle I would imagine is more of the trick.

It sure is. Diet, a good strength training program, and lots of motivation is what will get you there.

I just finished a 100km cycle. I can’t walk. I’m sure I’ll feel fantastic for the effort in a couple of days though.

If you don't die first? :)

So that translates into 60 miles, right? That's a fair distance to do. How long and how much of it was uphill, since there always seems to be hills. Not sure why. You'd think that hills wouldn't be in such abundance. Guess that's what happens when we're spoiled by driving around in cars.

Yeah, massive motivation. Tons. Ginormous amounts. Okay. I'll stop. :)

It was 4 hours and 46 minutes of cycling time but I stopped a couple of times for food and video making. All up I was out for 6 or 7 hours. My legs are pretty sore today. Fun ride though.

Great post. 100% truth that I agree with. Best way to track progress is to use special analysing machine which sends electric impulse trough your body and tells exact body composition. Using more simple tools like fat clippers is also helpfull in my case.

Thanks mate. Fat clippers can be a very blunt measurement. I avoid using them in my business for the simple fact that they can upset people too easily.

This one's meant for me lol. I spend so much time and thoughts on a scale and what it says about me.

Thanks for this one

Welcome mate. Glad to have helped. :)

nice article voted it up
