PROPER BACK PULL-UPS

Hey everyone! This is my first post in a series of form guides.

There are a lot of different versions of pull ups, but being able to engage the proper muscles each step of the way is important to create optimal strength and prevent overuse injuries.

  1. Always start with a hang with shoulders fully extended
  2. Engage core
  3. Pull shoulder blades down and in towards your ribs
  4. Engage the lats
  5. Bend the elbows
  6. Pull up the rest of the way using your arms
  7. Return to a hang and repeat

Start with the assisted machine (as I demonstrate above) until you can master this move on your own.
