Conference Blockchain LatinoAmerica

in #fintech8 years ago (edited)

At the beginning of this week, I had the opportunity to represent BitShares Munich and got to promote BlockPay at the 1st conference about Blockchain technology in Colombia and how it will impact all the different industries and the financial system not only in our country but in LatAm and the rest of the globe.

Even though it was the first conference to be done about this innovative subject and it was more or less 100 people at the event, although, it’s a small number compared to the bigger events that happen in other countries. Nevertheless, it’s a good sign for Colombia that there’s an interest in the financial system, from entrepreneurs and digital currency enthusiasts to learn about all of the features of this technology and all of its benefits.

Banks have to focus on creating new and innovative banking services for society rather than focusing on creating new banks because it’s a reality that it’s happening and they have to get on the digital cruise or keep being afraid they might disappear until it’ll eventually happen if they don’t start taking actions.

Digital money and decentralized technology will start playing a very important role in Latin American society and the way it interacts. Financially speaking, a lot of people don’t have access to a banking service or can’t access the system easily.
Although, many own a smartphone and now will be able to have access to a digitized economy much faster.

It was very gratifying to see how amazed people were when they started to hear about BlockPay and how it will bring solutions to the merchants. It will definitely start being attractive to a whole new market of digital money users and facilitate consumers to spend all their different types of digital currency so easily without a hassle and generating usability of digital payments to the most common and ordinary ways of spending money, like at a barbershop, hotel, car rental, cafe, restaurant, store, vending machine, supermarket, etc.

I was also surprised by the amount of information that the banking system lacks, not only from Colombia but from other parts of LatAm, they were in awe when they started hearing about Blockchain technology and what we were doing with our products, like BlockPay and upcoming one — Echo for messaging money to family and friends and the stealth feature for transactions.

It was a very important event for the future of Blockchain and the new era of digital payments, like BlockPay and BitShares Munich because people are starting to open their eyes on how society could start benefiting from all these new advancements, which would bring technology and more vulnerable populations together through education and opportunities, which before could’ve been accessed by a very limited number of people.

Also speaking and sharing the knowledge with the managers of the innovation department of Bancolombia, BBVA and the general manager of the Central Securities Depository from Chile, explained that

we are privileged by handling and having all this information beforehand which they look at and react like if it’s something that is coming out of a movie script

Also, seeing how Taylor Gerrings was excited when he saw the Ethereum logo on our BlockPay interface and sharing table at lunch with Tony Gallipi from Bitpay, hearing Gustavo Blousson from Signatura say that the BitShares Blockchain is one to look at, made this a unique experience which brings me to a conclusion that this is only the beginning of the future in the present, as I call it. Where we would get closer to a fully digital and decentralized industrial and economical globe.

This is awesome, wish i could have attended...

Finance in LatAm is ripe for disruption with blockchain tech, whether that's innovative merchant services solutions like @BlockPay, simply using Bitcoin as a store of value, or any projects like Factom is doing to register land title.

Thanks Miguel for sharing your awesome story from Columbia!

That is a realy nice reaction and while it seems it comes all from a movie script, i
