When we visited Heinola the previous time some local people told us that L.A. Aschan's house is one the oldest buildings still standing in town. That is possible because the town was received its charter in 1776. In fact, it is the second oldest one. There is an old church from 1755.

Its wonderful, too bad in India they are putting down old houses or whatever in the name of development, its really sad .But I'm glad that Finns are taking care of them :)

A lot has been demolished here, too, that, in hindsight, should have been preserved. It is clear that buildings have am limited life cycle and not all buildings, perhaps not even most, are worth preserving once their designed life is over. But it would've been wise to keep more of them that actually were because those towns that have a lot of old buildings left are considered more attractive than those with almost nothing left.
