Ratinan Suvanto

in #finland6 years ago (edited)

I shot some photos in the city centre of Tampere. I parked my car in the stadium parking lot. What you're looking at are the buildings around Ratina stream pool in the approxately one kilometre long Tammerkoski rapid near the southern end of the rapid where it discharges into Lake Pyhäjärvi. I walked around the stream pool. It was mercilessly cold. The temperature was -15 C and the heavy northeasterly wind was brutal. The wind chill made my hands numb and almost killed the battery of my mobile phone - the charge went down from 60 percent to 4 four percent in about 20 minutes. But I hope you enjoy the below photos in spite of the technical problems I had.

TAKO, a paper mill still operating in the centre of the city on the left. Hotel Ilves is on the right.

The stadium is on the right.

This side is for private boats.

A new bridge for light traffic

A view downstream from the bridge

A view upstream

The stadium from across Ratinan Suvanto

Kehräsaari, a former factory building on the left. Koskikeskus shopping centre ahead.

There are many restaurants and offices in Kehräsaari these days.

A hydroelectric plant upstream

Koskikeskus shopping centre and Hotel Ilves

After taking these I had to go to Koskikeskus to unfreeze myself before heading for the car.

The photos look beautiful, I really like the reflection of the lights in the water

Your photos are amazing. I like them

It was mercilessly cold.
Really, it is still cold in Finland still?

It's f***ing cold right now. It's -19 C at the weather station right now. Wind chill is a real nuisance and a potential hazard for small children if not adequately dressed.

Yes,its such a windy day today :(, wherever Im today, all i could hear mostly only these two words "Vitun Kylma " ahahah :D :P xx

Is this the same bridge that you saw?

How good for the dscripcion of all the places where you were or those you refer, But I'm going to ask something.? It is very difficult to drive on that type of street almost covered in snow or ice? That makes me very curious.

It is not difficult per se. The difficulty may hit you like a ton of bricks if something suddenly comes your way and you find yourself having to retain control of the vehicle at a high speed with little time to react.

Note that we don't drive with normal tires in the wintertime. We use winter tyres of one type or another. It is actually absolutely illegal to drive with summer tyres in December, January and February. At other times, mandatory use of winter tyres depends on weather conditions.

In the picture, you see studded winter tyres that are the most commonly used alternative. One can also use winter tyres without studs but the pattern and groove depth is different from summer tyres.

Nice photos mate! And the city - so beatiful. Looks like you had a walk in the cold but it was worth it : )

How do you live in this cold weather?

Thanks! It is just a matter of dressing properly. Only my hands were freezing because I couldn't have taken the photos with my gloves on.

Holy f(very bad word, kids don't swear) shit, why it is so cold.
I almost died on my way back home.
But to make photos there... it's insane, you deserve a medal :D

I wouldn't have had another opportunity for a long time. We're going home tomorrow.
