A correction, the waterproofing is a rubber plate extending from the lower edge of the socle to about ground level, not the upper edge. It would be quite ugly that way.

There's also probably a difference in weather patters between the south of Finland and Illinois. Rainfall is quite evenly distributed here. Heavy downpours here are probably not as heavy as in Midwest USA. Of course, you can have serious problems because of the local contours of the terrain here as well. And there is often flooding in river valleys in certain areas with very flat terrain.

There were only a handful of icicles hanging from the gutter drains but there were a couple hanging from the eaves about 10 cm towards the wall from the edge. This means that the gutter drain has flooded near that point. There is a cold storage room above a warm storage room on the side of the house where the overflooding has happened. The attic is quite easily accessible from the cold storage room. I will just have to take one panel off of the wall to have a direct view of the problem. I don't believe there has been much damage but I should install cables for the next winter.
