The History of Wonder Woman and Her Future

Not an anniversary, of course. However, after watching the film, I decided to study her history. In general, I'm not a fan of comic books or superhero movies. I liked X-Men and Nolan's films about The Dark Knight. I watched Legends of tomorrow because of the nostalgia for Scofield and Burrows, although it turned out that my nostalgia isn't so strong to watch these series). But honestly, there are so many films and TV series about superheroes that I'm completely confused and have long ceased to watch who is against whom and why.

Against the background of such chaos in my head, I decided to watch "Wonder Woman" with Gal Gadot in the title role.

This film made me remember one of the main problems of Hollywood - the number of women in the lead roles. How many films about superheroes can we recall where the protagonist is a woman? I can only remember the Catwoman. From the TV series only Supergirl and Jessica Jones come to my mind. However, Wonder Woman is not just a second-rate superhero, she's as iconic as Superman or Batman.

But back to the image of Wonder Woman. In "worldly" life her name is Diana, she is the princess of the Amazons. Her image is based on mythology. In Wikipedia it is written that on Greek, but the goddess Diana was in Roman mythology, her equivalent in Greek is Artemis. Artemis - the goddess of hunting, fertility, female chastity. It corresponds to the heroine of comics, where she easily breaks into battle and communicates with animals.

All her human abilities are improved, from the unusual there's only the ability to fly and heal.

The idea of Wonder Woman belongs to William Marston - the creator of the polygraph. All his life he preached feminism, well, the Second World War did its work. For women standing at the stove, an example should have appeared. A strong woman, not a submissive attachment to the stove. So, the image of Wonder Woman appears in his head appears, the prototype of his wife and mistress.

Wonder Woman was originally created not just as a superhero with a strong character, past and steep abilities, but carefully sculpted as a role model capable of conveying the ideals of feminism to timid girls.

However, on the one hand they talk about the freedom of women, on the other - Diana becomes the secretary in the Justice League, and the protective bracelets bind her power.

The screen version of "Wonder Woman" was given to its creators, oh, how hard it was. Despite the fact that the character is very popular, she has very little screentime left. Of course, Wonder Woman appeared on the second plans in cartoons / serials and video games. In 2016, she had a few minutes in "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of justice" (maybe more, I poked the movie, I could not watch it). And finally in 2017 a full-fledged film appeared on the screens.

It was not clear what everyone was waiting for and planned shooting as much since 1996, because the movie was very successful! With a budget of $149 million, it got $793 million box office. Thanks to this film, director Patty Jenkins became the highest-grossing female director.

But the big box office doesn't mean that the film is good. So let's find out if Gal Gadot can be an example for those girls and women for whom 76 years ago the first comics have created?

DC in a short time managed to quickly spoil its reputation, despite the fact that they own the rights to the most famous superheroes. You do not expect anything interesting from their films . Yes, there will be a superhero, yes, there will be a villain. There will be pathos, fights and romance. But in general, Wonder Woman has brought a breath of fresh air into all this routine.

I liked how they played Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. I discovered Pine as a good actor.

In my opinion, there were quite a few disadvantages. For example, unnecessary slow motion in the beginning, sometimes there is no logic, etc. Well, these words can be shoved into almost any review of the film. Well, I was tired with the final battle.

In general, the film is quite interesting and managed to rehabilitate the DC in my eyes. There is in it a twist, which will make me watch the second part. And Gal Gadot, in my opinion, is an excellent candidate for this role. She is bright, beautiful, cheerful, such, which should be a Wonder Woman in the view of her creator.

The second part of the film is scheduled for December 2019. In 2017, Diana will appear in the Justice League. I do not know if it's true or not, but Gal Gadot's fee for the film was $ 300,000. This is clearly not the amount that other superheroes receive.
