Alíen: Covenant (2017) | A New Alien Has Born.

To analyze this new plot of Alíen we must talk a little about its predecessors and enter the context of the saga, this way we can know what the meaning of this new film. Ridley Scott again directs one of its iconic films, but in this one it does of a different way to its previous Prometheus. Alien: Covenant transports us 10 years after the events occurred in the planet LV-223 and tells the story of the crew of the Covenant ship, which is in a mission of colonization of the planet Origae-6, but on the way will find, after certain events, a human signal on a nearby planet and decide go in their search, without knowing the terrible threat that awaits them.

For the year 1979 when it premiered Alien was quickly turned into a masterpiece and an icon of suspense and horror sci-fi, then its predecessors Alien: The Return (1986) and Alien 3 (1992), had good Stories as well as great directors (James Cameron and David Fincher respectively) who managed to maintain that atmosphere of terror and suspense, i reserve the commentary of Alien: Resurrection (1997). After more than 30 years Ridley Scott returned with a prequel to these films with Alien: Prometheus (2012) where he make a change from that characteristic suspense by placing more emphasis on action and raise philosophical themes about creation and life making this part important in the history to develop, is here where we arrive at the current year and the premiere of this new film. In Alien: Covenant Scott follows Prometheus's action model and delves deeper into philosophical debates with religious touches, but adds to all this a quantity of terror to the pure Slasher-style horror adapted to the Sci-Fi, all of these features come together to make of this new film "A New Alien".

Now it will be possible to open the debate between the followers of the first films, if it leaves its origins? And yes, it is true. This new film is different, it is very distant to what was Alien (1979), leaving aside the suspense, but now plays with the intrigue and uses the morbid of the brutal scenes to impact the audience, Covenant achieves give his viewers the necessary tension to keep them alert after the action begins, Scott keep a balanced order between the action and in his way inserts these shocking scenes that despite the sin of being a little predictable still achieve to surprise.

We must emphasize the performance of Michael Fassbender, in this film leaves aside the female protagonist who had accustomed us to Lieutenant Ripley and in the previous delivery with Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, here the main protagonist is embodied by Fassbender performing a double role, that in spite of having great similarities shows us two different personalities throughout the development of the argument. The script does not bother to introduce us to the secondary characters but uses them properly to fulfill their function, i do not want to compare for any moment the role of Katherine Waterston as Daniels to Sigourney Weaver as Lieutenant Ripley because the unique similarity would be her sex, are very different characters and for no reason is sought to be her substitute, we must also understand that the script "is not very elaborate" could discuss some or several actions of the characters and how these are resolved, but all this serve their purpose of entertaining and establish the foundation for the story to continue.

If you like the first films full of suspense, do not expect much of that in this plot, this film is directed another audience more eager for action and entertainment, but also raises philosophical themes about the life of humanity our origin and why we are here, with a reference not to mention it, if " Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" This movie will give you a topic of discussion with your friends, even so Alien: Covenant leaves more questions than answers, is a recommended movie and It will give you 120 minutes of good entertainment.
