The Intouchables (movie-review) - How a bromance story became the highest grossing foreign film

in #film7 years ago

Just after five minutes of watching The Intouchables you will be in love with it. This 2011 french movie directed by  Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano is one of those movies which will make you smile with tears in your eyes. It has influenced me a lot in my life. During this age where most of the money is made by superhero franchises The Intouchables has held the record for the highest grossing foreign film. No, this movie is not about spies or superheros. It’s a story of friendship. Movies like this gives us hope on humanity and makes us all feel that, deep down we are still humans.

The reason I am writing this review is to make more people watch and enjoy it.

Review:

This movie is about a rich man Philippe played by François Cluzet who will be paralyzed from below his neck and a former criminal Driss played by Omar Sy. You may recognize Omar from his recent films in Hollywood like The Inferno and Burnt. Driss will be appointed as a caretaker for Philippe. Philippe will be tired of seeing people pity for him, when Driss comes and treats him like a normal man a friendship will be formed.

You will definitely fall in love with Driss, he is from a rough background and is very innocent. The characters in this film is very well written, they are all simple and interesting at the same time. One of the scene in the movie is when Driss and Philippe goes paragliding. Driss hasn’t been on a plane before, the childlike emotion he expresses is priceless. This film will amaze you because of it simplicity.

There is a good conflict between the rich class in poor class people in the film. It shows how the rich spend time and money and how the poor does. Driss who will be having his own family will be going through a lot of trouble. Driss will be an outcast in Philippe’s community, Phillippe will be a person who is hating his own people. So, it will lead to a bond between them both.

Movies like this shows how we are still wired to being human. We all can be a good friend and be a good person. We all think world is a horrible place, but stories like these gives us all hope in our lives and look at the brighter side of life. Imagine being stuck to a wheelchair for your entire life, it's a sad way to live isn’t it? Here in this film we see how with friendship a paralyzed man can also enjoy his life. The power of friendship can heal many things.

The fact that this movie is based on a true story makes it even more powerful. At the end of the movie a small clip of the real people whom this film is based on is shown. When you see them you will be smiling with your eyes moist.

Conclusion:

As I have mentioned before, this is something I highly recommend you all to watch. A lot of times we ignore beauty. We think by telling something is beautiful will make us look bad in front of others. This film is the perfect example for it.
