So here we are... the second day of the year...

Having said that ... I guess it's a good time to make some filmmaking resolutions.

2017

2017 was a good year indeed.

I managed to create the projects that where stuck in the previous year. I probably ended up finishing more work this past year than in any other year before.

I wrote a script, I did two music videos, I made a micro film, I have another short film ready to edit, I was able to get the music video company of the ground and I did countless videos for youtube and the likes.

Must say I'm pretty happy with myself.

However I believe that this was just a warm up for 2018... I'll do my best for this to be the most productive year of my life.

2018

As far as the music video company goes the main mission now is to make another music video, in order for me to have three recent ones with the companies seal and to get all the paper work updated and open a formal activity.

Good news is, I'm confident I can make enough money outside of the videos to life of, leading me to be more relaxed and comfortable. Taking it easier, making better decisions and choosing my clients carefully.

Focus

I'm planning to be very focus in this coming year. I usually am, but I always have so many projects and ideas that sometimes it can get a bit complicated.

As far as filmmaking goes... I'll put all my efforts in Music videos.

As far as storytelling, I'll put all my efforts in Music Videos and scripts.

All my focus and energy will be on making music videos and writing scripts or stories... I have a comic book idea... and so on. Time and attention resources are going to those two endeavours.. All in!

Fiction Films

So what about fictional films?

Well, I have several ideias ... there is one in particular I've been trying to get it made for 4 years now.

This year I won't count on making it. If by any chance I get finance, great! If not I'll take out of my mind for now. Clearing ALOT of mental space, and making it possible to focus on writing and Music Videos.

I do have a short film to edit soon and I know of some people, who know how to fight, who are interested in making an action short. So I'll see how interested are they and maybe do that one. If not all fictional creativity will go to the page instead of the screen.

Gear

Not sure I said it before but... I don't actually have any film gear.

All I have is an Ipod that let's me film 3 minutes at a time and 7 minutes all together before the battery dies. That and a couple of lights (The kind you find at construction sites).

So one thing on the list is to get some gear, just so I can have more breathing room and independence. If someone asks me to make a video the next day, I can just go and do it.

Routines, Breaks and Holidays

Over the last two years I only had two weeks of holidays, only two weeks away from it all. And in general only a day a week where I would not work, and sometimes not even that.

That's one thing that I want to "change." I'll try and take 2 days off every week.

One day with limited use of screens. This one can be very important, since I work in front of the screen all the time and then my main relaxation is watching movies.

So by taking one day with the least screen time as possible, only good things can come. Also that can always be a day where I catch up on books, podcasts, walking and so on...

Then a second day off where If I want I'll watch movies all day long or do whatever I want.

There is a thing that a lot of people don't get and that is:

As a filmmaker we watch movies for entertainment but it's also part of the job. The standard rule is that a filmmaker should watch two movies a day. And we're not only watching ... but analysing it and so on... It's part of the job, even if it has a huge relax time element to it and even if for most people it's purely free time.

Sometimes I have a lot of movies I want to see, and audio commentaries from the Dvd's and so on... that I end up not seeing and then they start to pile and it starts to be a bit overwhelming.

With a day where I can just watch all I want, I can always catch up on the movies I want to see and never stress about it. Just find a way that it can work and devote a day for doing nothing I don't want and watch all the movies I want with all the making of's I want.

Of course some weeks this is not going to happen as I'm sure I'll be full of work and not able to think about anything else, but as a general rule I'll try and take out 2 days a week. One no screens, one for movies.

I actually think this will increase my productivity quite a lot.

Music

I also want to get back into making music... these last two years have been the less musical I've ever had. In the amount of music I listen to but mainly in the amount of music I created.

I'll try and develop a system... get 4 hours a week for making music, that would already make a huge diference.

And I can always use the non screen day to catch up in case things go side ways.

It is of absolute importance that I make songs these year... Movies can be so complicated, so expensive with so many people involved that the luxury of walking into your studio and just express your ideas and feelings is something priceless.

Something that will help me in every aspect of my life. It's really the highest form of meditation one can get.

I fell light and stress free and with clear mind... important subjects can find their way out of your body ... letting you focus more on things you can change and so on...

Defiantly a must for better focus on filmmaking and in life ... in general.

So yeah... this is the plan for the next year more or less...
