Ridley Scott's "Napoleon" has been much criticized for distorting history and ignoring key events.

My partner loves military history, and wanted to know how the story could be told better. My response is they should make a trilogy or a TV miniseries:

Part I: The Rise to Power, 1792-1804.

Napoleon's successes in the Wars of the Revolution, the expedition to Egypt, The 18th Brumaire - ending in his becoming Emperor in 1804.

Part II: Napoleon at the Height of His Power, 1804-1809.

Napoleon's greatest victories (Austerlitz, Jena, etc.). But also seeds of later problems, such as the ill-conceived invasion of Spain. Ends with Napoleon's last great victory at Wagram. Napoleon beats the Austrians again, but they have clearly closed much of the quality gap between their forces and the French. Earlier in the 1809 campaign, Napoleon even suffers his first significant battlefield defeat.

Part III: Napoleon's Fall, 1809-1815.

The Russian Campaign, the battles of 1813-14 (unjustly neglected in previous films; but these included the single biggest battle of the Napoleonic Wars), and Waterloo.

If there is time/money, Parts II and III can feature some scenes with Wellington. He's a good foil to Napoleon in terms of personality, military tactics, and political views.

If any Hollywood executives are reading this, I will be happy to sell our idea to your studio - for a nice hefty fee, of course!
