Capsule Film Review: Halo: Forward Unto Dawn (2012)

in #film6 years ago

Film adaptations of popular video games tend to be annoyingly predictable in their low levels of quality. Forward Unto Dawn, 2012 feature film based on the popular Halo series, is just another such example. Originally made as a web series of five short episodes, its distribution coincided with the release of Halo 4 with its plot being its prequel. The protagonist, played by Thom Green, is young cadet at Corbulo Academy where he studies to become an officer in UNSC, and where he would experience devastating attack by mysterious and deadly aliens. Forward Unto Dawn can't hide the episodic nature of its script and the actual action takes place only in second half, which is capably directed by Stewart Handler. The film overall can't overcome its content limitations and low budget, which again made forests around Vancouver to be used as an alien planet.
