A Cleansing
The trip had always presented challenges: cobwebs, crawling creatures, standing water, burnt out lightbulbs and dirt as old as the house itself.
Later this day she wrote:
Photographs you took long ago
first swept me unsteady,
then showed me the beast.
Tissues pile up on the table.
You are gone.

Wow, this is magnificent, @owasco. I love the richness of the language and imagery. This story walks a fine line between fiction and poetry. Or perhaps it is a poem within a story. Sometimes conflict and pain are best discovered through the details: the burnt out lightbulbs, the old photographs, the tissues piled up on the table. Very nicely done!
I'm glad you like it! This prompt was very difficult for me and, to be truthful, I loosely used a previously written poem for it. That poem always did need some explanation, so having to spruce it up for a fifty word story has been a blessing. Thank you!

I don’t see that. People are allowed to remove an upvote. Did you get some kind of notification?
No notification, but there is a broken heart on steempeak, and a negative amount among the votes on steemit, both from camillesteamer, which seems to be part of a watchdog account. I'm wondering if it's because I've posted some of the poem before in steem?
@owasco , I wouldn't give it a thought. It's clearly a troll account with a rep of 12, and their SP isn't strong enough to knock a feather off a windowsill. It's possibly even a bot account, which means the downvotes are completely random.
I would not fret about it too much. It’s probably nothing you did. That is your own content so it shouldn’t be any sort of long-term issue.
