The worse, the better. More dead meant more to find, so long as you got there first.

Laz found the battlefield, so fresh that blood dripped from the leaves of grass. A silent field of butchery. Vulture shrieks greeted him. Payday.

Picking loot, he slipped and befriended a spear point.
