Which Witch is Which?
Illustration made by @crypt-skip used with permission
The bedraggled group of exhausted women huddled together in the crude pen.
The hard eyed men gathered around with pitchforks. One stepped forward, shouting at the women, "Step forward Witch of Logan! We know it is one of you!"
The women looked nervously at each other but no one moved.
bedraggled... Now there's a word! Nicely written piece. Lots to think about. Well done.
This is a really good angle to take the prompt, hadn't even crossed my mind. You have managed to capture the fear that would have been there for the women during the witch trials. That first sentence is amazing.
From an editing standpoint I would have broken it up into paragraphs, when the perspective changes and for the speech.
Thanks for the compliment and for the editing tips. You are 100% correct, that would make a difference. I get caught up in the story being so short that I didn't even think about using paragraphs. I have changed it now and I like it much better!
Hehe! "Which witch is which?" was the first thing I thought of when I saw that the prompt for this week's Fifty Words was witch :)
Unfortunately, your story continues in my mind and I imagine the sad fate of those women... no one steps forward and they all perish.
Yes, that's one ending, but I always root for the underdog, so I know no one is going to step forward and betray Witch of Logan, but I can see some sort of rescue taking place. Perhaps from the Witch herself turning that mob into toads, lol.
Excellent Blueeyes8960, Such a challenge to make a interesting story using only 50 words, NICE JOB!
Nicely done, @blueeyes8960. Can you imagine living in those times? What terror!
Since you are open to feedback, I have a couple of little things. :-)
One thing is that the guidelines are that images must only be ones that you have the rights to use -- yours, creative commons images or images that you've received permission for. Please be sure to read that section of the prompt post. It describes the rules and also provides resources for finding images on creative commons sites. (If we just pull images off the internet, they are typically subject to copyright laws.)
The other thing I wanted to mention is that you have a period after the word "forward" that should be a comma. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated! I corrected the punctuation error. Sorry about the image, I thought I was doing the right thing by attributing where the image came from. Google gave me the "share image" link, so I thought it was okay. Guess you can tell I'm new at this! I will use the resources you provided for future submissions. @crypt-skip has made me an original illustration so I have replaced the picture. Thanks for you help and info!
Thanks for the shout out on the image @blueeyes8960! It was my pleasure!
Fantastic! The image is awesome. I'm going to have to check out @crypt-skip. Nice work, both of you.
Check out the signature gif that @crypt-skip made for me too. He's pretty handy with those animation programs!
Super cool!
