I don't think there are allusions that need explaining. However, if you find yourself a bit confused, refer to the Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus.

Sisyphus-Like Malady
Across the moors, I strolled back and forth, knowing nothing better to execute. I saw a sparkling star of the night and wept. Tears were not shed. I kept striding back and forth, sometimes weeping, and not once the reaper came. Am I to blame?
