Chapter 1 Overclocking brain

Standing on the streets of Taiwan.

Chen Ang silently swallowed a small transparent tablet. Through his eyes, time suddenly became super slow, extremely slow. Information around him entered into his brain in a messy manner. Such caused him to have brief Synesthesia. His current state of mind was in chaos. But, as soon as the drug began to display its effectiveness, his sight became clear.

Through the rapid and complex operation within his brain, A variety of information was sorted into different categories. What he saw and heard were all processed in his brain, but some of the information was specifically picked out by him.

It was about 500 meters in front of where he was located, a blonde foreign girl seemed to be struggling with her heavy eyes as she was talking with another foreign man. Their voice during conversation was not loud. By the time the soundwave travelled to Chen Ang, what was left is none other than a fine mosquito-like noise. However, the sound was unusually clear in his ear after undergoing analysis within his brain.

"Dear! Don’t be like this!"

"Richard, I gotta go!"

Both seemed to drag each other. In fact, Chen Ang could already guessed what they were trying to say early on. In his current state, Chen Ang could project out every slight details within his memory even if it was some boring movie which he had seen.

Yes, for Chen Ang, this is none other than a scene from the film "Super Body" which is also known as “Lucy”. It is science fiction film from America in which the main story is about a dumb girl who became God. This scene is the opening story of the movie.

In the real world, three days ago, Chen Ang was still an ordinary high school student, working diligently for college entrance examination. The unexpected part was the sudden awakening of an ability. It allows him to transmigrate to the world derived from human fantasy works. Walking into an entirely different route of humanity's journey. Currently he was already at "Never Ending" world, Working on the drug NZT with 13 doctoral scientists.

The reason he came here was for the silver white suitcase in the man’s hand which is filled with a new type of drug CPH4. It is derived from human a fetal growth hormone and has the potential to unlock brain capabilities to a higher realm.

In the film, a huge dose of CPH4 had entered into Lucy’s body, leading to her body cells to excite and stimulate development of her brain beyond ordinary humans. From 20%, 40%, gradually heading towards 100% and finally integrating with the universe together.

Chen Ang’s aim is obviously not to integrate with universe, such drug which defies the order of Heaven, for the current him, due to similarly consuming such kind of brain development drug - NZT, Chen Ang had a strong desire on this much more powerful drug.

Having taken NZT from "Never ending" world, he knew extremely well that how tempting such a drug which would improve the state of brain. Whatever knowledge which was hard to understand and memorize, they are now able to be instantly learned and used in daily as if it is an instinct.

In modern society, knowledge is something cheap yet expensive at the same time. Cheap refers to the access of the knowledge through various channels like Internet and library. Modern people can obtain them at such low price. Well, as for expensive, it refers none other than knowledge itself. It is simply priceless.

Similarly, CPH4 which allows human to obtain vast ocean of knowledge is priceless.

At this time, both of them were already in the middle of a fight. Richard suddenly took out a pair handcuffs and placed them on Lucy’s wrist. This action made her mad that she began screaming: "Quickly remove this thing from my wrist now!"

"I can’t do so. Mr. Jiang is the only one holding the key!"

At this time, Chen Ang had already came over to their side and suddenly interupted them, "That’s not the case!"

"Who’re you?!" Richard looked at him with a shocked expression and then he continued, “Listen, boy! No matter who you are, it’s best to forget what you hear or else….” He halted his sentence.

Noticing the gun on Chen Ang’s hand, Richard obediently raised both hands. Lucy who were beside them the whole time was shocked at the scene in front of her. Nervously she closed her mouth and started sobbing.

"Alright! As long as you two listen to me obediently, I promise your life will be safe!" Chen Ang’s voice was somehow able to convince them. “Now get on the bus!”

With a little hypnosis skill, both obediently got on the bus nearby. Without waiting for Richard to sit, Chen Ang hit the back of his head, making him fall unconscious on the seat. Lucy cautiously sat next to him, begging: "I don’t know anything. No, in fact I only know this guy just a moment ago!"

"Lucy, soon you will be fine!" Chen Ang was trying to comfort her.

Chen Ang drove the bus and stopped at an abandoned building. Locking Richard in the basement, Chen Ang brought Lucy to a huge laboratory.

Looking at the countless instruments in the lab, racks of test tubes and flasks, Lucy turned restlessly and whispered, "Sir, can I go?"

Chen Ang patted the table in the lab and said to Lucy, "Now lie here. I have to make sure you’re forgetting everything!"

Lucy pleaded sincerely, "No, sir. I promise I won’t…."

"Lie down!" Chen Ang’s voice turned cold.

Lucy who didn’t want to offend him, Hugging herself to the slim hope she would be ok, obediently laid down on the chair and watched as Chen Ang gently fiddled with the password lock of the silver case. Once opened, what was lying inside were four packs of blue crystals.

She didn’t get a clear view of the cases contents before she was shocked, resulting in her falling unconscious.

Chen Ang paid no attention to her. He carefully took samples from the packs of CPH4 for analysis. A mother into her 6th week of pregnancy would secrete a small amount of the chemical for the fetus’s brain development.

It is an important existence for the human mind. The drug was in a crystalline form similar to that of a sapphire, Small doses of this drug were already lethal to a full grown adult. If Chen Ang wanted to use this for himself, a long period of time is needed to analyze the drug.

For this process, Chen Ang had a skill specialised for this.

"In the movie, NZT and CPH4 are two completely different things. But when movies become reality, it is hard not to admit that they both have similarities. The mechanism used to unlock the brain's potential must be somehow overlapping between them."

"This similar mechanism would be the key for me to move in a right direction in improving CPH4." Chen Ang held a test tube filled with CPH4 and disappeared into the inner region of the lab.

Very soon,he was in the underground experimental base of "Never Ending" world. He put on a white coat and warmly greeted people.

"Doctor Chen! We have a new harvest on NZT progress! The result of basic pharmacological analysis which you requested for has been out. The experts are preparing for it!" A researcher wearing a mask delivered the report to Chen Ang.

"Doctor, the lab has prepared." Another researcher rushed over.

Chen Ang didn’t speak a single word and entered straight into the lab which is the best one in "Never Ending" world. To be able to prepare an accurate dosage of NZT should speak for its capability. If not for predicting the strong side effect of NZT, Chen Ang’s brain would have developed to forty percent. But of course, two hours later, he would suffer from brain damage.

According to the experiment, Chen Ang traveled to different worlds. The time in each world is independent from one another. Whenever he is not in the world, the time would stop. This made it impossible to use his ability to cheat. If he wanted progress, he had to be present. In fact, after Chen Ang’s brain developed, this is the second problem to solve.

With blood of Lucy and CPH4, Chen Ang was busy for the whole afternoon. The blue drug in front of him was his only result.

"NZT’s side effects are reduced by half, but no progress at all on CPH4 research. What I could prove is that Lucy’s blood serum has the potential to relieve the side effect of NZT!"

"Seems like it is the right time now to overclock to second degree!" Chen Ang frowned.

He named the extreme processing in brain as an overclocked state. As what NZT is capable of without any side effect was achieving normal overclocking. The original NZT is able to achieve the first degree of overclocking and the current improved NZT would go one step further, second degree overclocking. Also, the highly concentrated NZT which could achieve the third degree, which Chen Ang jokingly named it as the incomplete retarded drug.

In the next half year, NZT research and progress had achieved the key for success. Not only completely eliminating of side effect of first degree overclocking drug but also reducing second degree version to minimal side effect. The initial pharmacology research of CPH4 is also more complete now. However, its serious side effects still made Chen Ang’s mind unpeaceful.

Lucy in "Super Body" had been detained for a week. For such precious research material, Chen Ang carefully ensured that her mood was kept at a relatively positive level. That was why he could only have limited access to her blood. A few weeks ago, Chen Ang took a bit of cells from her spinal cord to “Never Ending” world to study. Now, it was about the time for result to out.

Chen Ang observed the changes caused by NZT on this experimental body, frowning in deep thought.

He opened the experimental notes at the side: When test been done on "Eddie’s" efficiency, its efficiency didn’t increase with the concentration of drug introduced. Instead, only the ideal concentration is able to bring out the most potential. When “Eddie” was introduced into an empty body, its efficiency suddenly spiked up which then proved that “Eddie” did not only play an important role in brain but also the whole body.

Perhaps ancient Chinese medicine is right - not only the brain and spinal cord are the source of human wisdom. Even the theory of human body systems had been proved to exist. When "Eddie" was injected into internal organs, the test was able to identify their role in affecting emotions. Such result coincides with Chinese medicine theory.

Chen Ang picked up a book next to him named "Record", turned to section “Qi” and continued writing notes on it: A reasonable progress on “Lucy” and “Eddie”. They are inseparable from ancient Chinese medical wisdom. “Lucy” without having any side effect might be related to human body qi. In this regard, the two ancient grand masters might be able to provide me a great help.

"Doctor! Important result has came out!" A researcher hurriedly ran to him.

"Seems like “Lucy" gives us a surprise!” Chen strided with huge steps towards the second laboratory with a pleasant smile.

A white haired old man saw Chen Ang and quickened his steps towards him. He was still under the influence of the NZT drug. His eyes were clear and firm but a hint of excitement could be heard from his voice. It is to note that after NZT had been improved, the biggest side effect is suppression of human emotion. When people in this state had a reaction, the actual mood would be very intense.

" “Lucy" had led us to success! Under the influence of catalyst number two, “Lucy” is exceptionally stable and we even unexpectedly found a discovery!” He raised his hand and pointed at the centre of a liquid.

A tube of purple drug, twinkling magnificently under the light. Researchers nearby stared at it with obsession as if they were looking at precious stones. Even if real gems are to placed in front of them, very likely they won’t even bother with it.

Hey, so, I couldn't help but notice that you have your links wrong for the navigation panel. As you can see, you have chapter 2 for previous and chapter 1 for next. It's confusing, but you have to input the next chapter first.

Also, the story feels a bit Limitless does it not? I note that because you referenced Lucy and the drug in that movie, but didn't not the NZT from Limitless. Was that intentional? You have to be careful to not cross copyright lines, because that'll get a bit messy if the story takes off.

Take note of formatting issues as well, I see stray asterisks because of spaces after or before it.

It will be in chapter two
Well, this web novel uses lots of movies as plot background so yea...

The navigation links. Take a look at it and fix them.

done :)
Thx!

I am a bit sad that my readers are not interested in joining steemit
sigh~

Show them the benefits that Steemit can do for them. They can still read your stories without joining anyway. If you can't bring your audience here, then make one on this platform :) It's their loss anyway.

Making one here is pretty hard for my niche...

How come? You can't know until you try. Do you write it in Pinyin first before you translate it into English? Because if you do, you don't have to. The Chinese community here is strong like unbelievably strong. You can visit the cn tag to see what I'm talking about.

actually, it did mentioned Limitless.
Just that I translated it to "Never Ending" world since Limitless in Chinese version is named as "Never Ending"

Ahh I see, huh that's interesting. I guess that'll do :)

awwwww shit everybody we asia noveling now
