The Lazy Little Squirrel who refused to gather tokens, a parable

in #fiction6 years ago (edited)

Stanley squirrel was enjoying his first week on Steem.  It was a Bull Market and he was getting votes and attention.

He had learned to leap from post to post using the spring of the chart to launch himself to his next target.  The feeling of exhilaration as he flew through the platform was liberating.

All the Minnow squirrels liked to play together, making shit posts, Powering Down and complaining about whale votes, while basking in the warm feeling their wallets gave them.  They loved the greens.

The Dolphins cautioned the newlings, ”play is fine, but as Investors, we all must spend our time gathering Steem and other tokens for the bear runs when wealth becomes scarce.  If we don’t work together, we will all go broke.”

Stanley, being somewhat stubborn and simple-minded , rebelled against the elders.

”I live to trade,” He said.  ” I don’t know what a bear run is, but I’m sure it can wait a few more days.  After all, we are young and healthy and crypto is very plentiful…Why worry?”

Stanley and his siblings resumed their play, pretending to not hear screeches of anger.

The Bull Run passed quickly and the change in mood brought cooler markets, but the days were warm and the sun shone with a  brilliant clarity. Stanley continued to ignore the admonishment of the dolphins, trading and spending instead of gathering tokens for the Bear Run.

One by one, all of his playmates left to join the rest of the squirrels in preparation for the coming season.

Finally it was only Stanley, and his special friend, bushy tailed, Stephanie.

” Look at all those fraidy squirrel’s, running to gather tokens” said Stanley.” We squirrels take care of each other. If we need money, the others will share their wealth, meanwhile we can play.”

Stephanie flicked her tail in his face and sprang away, with Stanley in hot pursuit.

Time passed, and Bears Run turned into nuclear Winter.

The first sell off of the season hit the Market. Everything was covered with  fear and doubt and the market didn’t rebound.

Stanley and Stephanie sat on a bare branch of their favorite post. ” The others are still looking for Steem” said Stephanie, her black eyes wide with alarm.

“Don’t worry”, said Stanley,” we will look for Steem tomorrow. In the meantime,  the others will share their wealth with us  if we need it. ”

“Tag you’re it!” he shouted,  and sprang from the branch, sending a shower of snow to the ground below.

A few days later, the Bear Run set in with a vengeance. The prices fell for 2 days, and the winds blew huge rumors of 1k Bitcoin and dying blockchains.

” I’m broke ,” whined Stephanie.” All the tokens and votes are gone. What will we eat.”

Stanley looked around.” Yes I’m hungry too. Lets go ask the others to share their wealth.”

They scampered off and went to see the Ned and the other elders.

”Can we please have something to eat.” They asked in unison.” We are hungry, and there is no Green to be found in the Markets.”

Ned looked at them sadly, and shook his head.” We have been working all summer and all fall to gather enough tokens to keep us alive during the long cold bear market.”

He stamped his front paw.” That’s what squirrels do. We work as a community to provide the value to keep us alive. Everyone must contribute or we all die.”

Stanley hung his head.” We didn’t know..” His dark eyes opened wide.” I always thought we were part of a community of squirrels.

All for one and one for all.

From each according to his means to each according to his needs.

Share and share alike

We should be be taken care of by the Community of Squirrels.”

The Top Squirrel shook his head. His eyes blazed with anger.” By ignoring  our warnings, and playing instead of working, you have jeopardised our community.

Everyone must work together for all to survive.

I’m sorry. You and Stephanie must find your own wealth.

We have only enough to pay those who helped gather the tokens. If we feed you we all starve. ”

@whatsup

Moral of the story, this market sucks no matter who you are.. lol... I was bored, couldn't think of anything to write about.

Funny story, first I was like: wut? Then I was like aha, nicely done!

...and then ned bear and dan bear were left in a woodland with no berries and had to eat each other and then the steemspeak bears were busy swapping drinking stories and dropping dank memes

Haha!! lol.

Lol, this made me chuckle no end :0)

Hahahaha, but isn't true. It's no tale, it's the life story of many.

This is true and too often the others share. :)

Ha! This is great :) There are far too many Stanleys and Stephanies here and in the 'real' world I think!

That was a cute story @whatsup! Did you say fiction or nonfiction? LOL

And then poor Stephanie had to sell her squirrel body to the highest bidder, who could only pay in XVG.

I actually really liked that story.

Haha, Stephanie's bushy tail will bring in the monies. :)

Nooooo! That would be a miserable tale. 😭 There is still hope!

Great story with a perfect message!

@whatsup,
Definitely this is a Moral story! Once I sold more than 2000 STEEM /SBD! It was one of the biggest mistake I have done so far! But fortunately I have understood the value of SP before it drops drastically! So manages to play the survival game so far!

Cheers~

YOU DID WHAT? OMG. haha, I like you anyway, I bet that burns. It's going to burn even more at $10 Steem

@whatsup,
Yeah 1500 burned at 0.9 USD! The other 500 burned at $6.00!
Just imagine what type of fool I was / am lol :D

Cheers~

Loved it :3

I gathered a lot of nuts during the Steem summer! But then the Steem winter came and they look like much less than I thought. Slowly... starving...

But it's cool nonetheless. I like it here, even though I'm barely making enough money for anything. I love writing and I need to post what I write somewhere. :D

Yeah, it's depressing. I'm still bullish, but this isn't a fun time, I was writing off some steem.
