Tale of an empire - The Grand Empire of Regulus

A new story, faithful readers. This one is set in a third world of mine and will focus mostly on world information and world building. It will mostly focus on the empire from the title. Hope you enjoy it :)

There are many reasons why Regulus was a successful empire, having a rallying point, hating non humans and gods. But in the grand scheme of things, that was just a minor benefit. Thanks to the abundance of resources it was possible for the population to have a steady growth and to sustain itself. What caused that population to explode was the invention of static crates. Containers that allowed food inside to stay fresh indefinitely. Soon manufacturing factories started producing them in large numbers. This has allowed legions to prepare easier for long campaigns.
Considering how large population they had, Regulus needed a good waste disposal system. It was necessary to keep their people safe from infection. Sewage was made for every major city and some smaller ones as well. Most of it was made by inactive legions. It was not a glorious job, but it kept legion useful, in shape and it helped to give people a better view of the solders.
A large and powerful empire located in the South – West. Its people are resilient and dedicated to their way of life. A life they made for themselves after the war with the gods, nowadays refereed to as the War of Banishment.
Being located on the banks of three great rivers has enable them to always maintain, relatively large population. Their well developed infrastructure, housing and sewage systems helped as well.
The capital and the largest city in the empire is Menos. Stretching far and wide it has close to eight hundred thousand people living in it. Some of the most important buildings can be found in it. The Imperial Palace, the Primary Academy of the Lore, the First Covenant of the Sisters, the Imperial Court and a few more, all important for everyday lives of the citizens.
All cities are connected by a network of wide roads. All of them have to be wide enough for four carriages to pass each other at the same time. Along the way many inns can be found, even small towns, where travelers could rest, change their horses, or buy what they need for the rest of the journey. Large part of this work was done by many workers employed by contractors. In times of peace legions are expected to help in building and reconstructing. It is not a work young solders like, but it is what is expected of them and they will do this with out too many complaints.
At this time there are eighteen primary legions and thirty supporting legions. There are sixteen knightly orders and four Sisters of Destruction covenants. There are also three Academies of the Lore and five Artificer Schools. Along with them there are officer schools, six of them in the entire empire. This represents the primary army and officer corps.
At any time Regulus has eighteen standard Legions. Most of them are based around major cities. Only the Second and fifteenth are away from any major settlement. But unlike the rest, those two are specialist Legions that operate differently then any other. Each of them have their own support structure, able to function almost independently if needed. Thanks to this every Legion has their own customs, training methods, composition and tactics.
Fifth Legion has six mercenary companies, unlike two that most of them employ. Commander General of the Fifth Grobel, started as a mercenary leader. Because of that he used legionaries, archers and artillery to complement his main force. Opposite to what any other Legions does.
There are thirty more Legions called supporting Legions. They number twenty thousand in number, less then half the size of the standard ones. They are sent to assist primary Legion in defense of an important location, or a particularity difficult battle in a war. They can also be sent to a major conflict to supplement the main legion used in a war. In this case they are subservient to the Commander - General of the main legion. Unlike primary Legions they do not have access to Knights, Sisters, or auxiliaries.
Magic of the Regulus is common, yet very unusual to what other civilizations are used to. Two primary mages are Orators and Lecturers. Orators use the Lore. Books and Scrolls in witch are written words that produce specific effects. Lecturers have more then one role. They serve as scribes, historians and to use Lore. In their case Lore is used differently, not in a spoken way, but written. Before the battle they write specific inscriptions into armors and weapons of certain individuals. During the battle when the solder decides, they can activate the inscription and start the effect. Making them immensely powerful, able to take down monsters, giving them the strength of forty men. However, the process is a long and tedious one. It has to be done before the battle and it takes several hours to finish. When it is activated it cannot be stopped and it is difficult to handle. It takes a special individual to be able to handle to activation with out braking, or dying. One thing cannot be denied. Watching it activate and a person going into bloodthirsty frenzy is a sight to behold. It is as if the rage of humankind has taken flesh and stepped into to battle itself.
