About Rick and How He Fell in Love (Again)

„I don't know; do you think I should give it a try? I don't want to cheat on Luna.“ Rick asked his best friend James as they were sitting for the usual coffee break.

„Well yeah, why not? You've been in this relationship for what? 8 years? You say you don't want to leave her but yet you feel miserable. So just make a profile on the app, find a random chick who's as miserable as you are, and you know, have some good old fun. Luna doesn't have to know and you'll feel refreshed for new relationship problems you so seem to enjoy.“ James was that type of a liberal guy who thought every problem can be resolved with a bit of... „flexibility“.

„You're such an asshole James, you do know that, right?“

„I do. Yet here I am satisfied with my life, while you're complaining about how unhappy you are. Just say you’ll make the profile.“

„I guess.“

Rick went home, turned on his phone and made a profile on a dating app. James told him he needs to upload an image of himself, but in the end, he decided not to. Rick was feeling guilty for doing this.

Nevertheless, he started the great swiping quest. He swiped left, he swiped right, hell, he would’ve even swiped up, down, in, out if he could.

Some wen were cute, but none grabbed his attention. Yes, Rick knew he was looking for a “one-night-stand”, but you see, Rick was what you’d call a romantic guy. You can’t run away from yourself, right?

So, after hours of swiping, he stumbled upon someone who caught his eye. The woman had no image which was bad, but then again, neither did Rick. What caught Rick’s eye was the description. She wrote she enjoys a cold beer in the summer, getting a bit drunk, and talking about random, dumb, stuff. As an example she listed: “Getting drunk enough to make fun of the random guy passing by whose pants just fell off.”

This sparked Rick’s attention as this was exactly what he felt was missing in his relationship with Luna. She was always in a state of worry and Rick felt she didn’t know how to simply have fun every once in a while. She definitely wasn’t the type of person who’d drink few beers, have funny conversations and joke about random people.

So Rick swiped right and soon enough he got the infamous message of online dating: “Hi”.

They talked and talked and Rick was starting to feel alive and happy again. He kept thinking how he can’t believe he actually met a woman that was so open and so ready to do stupid and funny things. They even thought of trading some images, but soon enough, they arranged a date in a local park. Initially, a restaurant was suggested, but that’s boring and so cliché. So they decided to simply buy few beers and meet in the park. They agreed each one should take two cans of beer as a sign of recognition.

The evening came, Rick bought two cans of beer and went to the park. While entering the park, he felt more and more nervous. Just as he was thinking of turning back, he saw her: Brown hair, simple white dress and two cans of beer in a bag; Rick’s favorite brand.

And then, Rick felt as if the time has stopped. He felt frozen and let me tell you; she did too. It was Luna standing there in her simple, white dress and holding two cans of beer in a bag.

They approached each other, stood there for a moment and Rick said: “I never knew that you like drinking cold beer in the summer, getting a bit drunk, and talking about random, dumb, stuff.”

Luna answered: “I do.” After, she started to giggle.

So they sat in the park, drank beer, and made fun of people passing by who would occasionally trip on something and fell on the ground, nose first.

After finishing the beer, Rick asked: “Hey, let’s go to a club. Are you up for a pina colada?”

“You know Rick. That reminds me of a song.”

Love - the biggest cliche of them all; but also the sweetest. I hope you liked the story; who knows, soon you might meet or even "remeet" the love of your life.
