Astronomer: The moon is giant with the sunset today

Earth's population is on an extraordinary date to see the super-moon or giant moon from Sunday night until dawn on Monday, an Egyptian astronomer said.

The head of the astronomy department at the National Institute of Astronomical and Geophysical Research, Dr. Ashraf Latib Tadros, said that the giant moon is the moon's moon for the first spring of this month, where the moon shines by 99.9% and shines with sundown on Sunday.

He said in remarks to Anatolia that the "Super Moon" would be at its closest point for the Earth (less than 360 thousand kilometers), it looks slightly larger by 7% and brighter by 16% than normal.

He pointed out that this full moon is the last moon of 2017, and it is called pre-Christmas Badr, also called Badr long cold nights.

He pointed out that December is the month of winter when the astronomical maximum reaches 23 December, the longest night and the shortest day of the year.

For its part, revealed the Astronomical Society in Jeddah in a statement Saturday that the giant moon, which occurs during the winter months in the northern hemisphere, looks larger than other giant moonlit satellites that occur the rest of the year.

She explained that at this time of year the Earth is close to the sun, and as a result, the gravity of the sun pushing the moon closer to the earth, making any giant Badr happening during the winter seems larger than the giant moonlit satellites that occur in the summer.

The assembly confirmed that the giant Al-Bader on Sunday would be the first of three giant satellite moons that will occur sequentially with a giant role on January 2 and 31, 2018.
