Chapter 2 – Andrew
Andrew looked at the email on his phone. It was an invitation from Lee Group of Companies. They were inviting him for a proposal, along with several architectural firms. They are building an eco-inspired mall. Andrew owns the Premiere Designs and Associates along with his two college friends Joe and Wally. They just formed their company 8 months ago after their internship from one of the top architectural firms in the country. He was awarded most promising architect and graduated top 3 in the board exams. He already had this goal to establish his company as one of the best and getting the project from Lee Group was his ticket to be recognized.
Suddenly Joe walked in. His college buddy, who always cracks jokes announced “Hey, aren’t you going to hug and kiss me?” pouted his lips.
Andrew just smiled.
“We got in man…thanks to me!” Grinning and pointed at himself. “I knew winking at the Lee Group secretary would get me that invitation!”
“Good job. So I owe you a drink tonight?” Andrew asked.
“You know me… I get it done! Joe’s the man. What would you do without me bro? I’m the face of Premier Designs and Associates!” Joe exclaimed.
Andrew stood up put on his coat and patted Joe in the back. “I need to check on the Gonzales site. The pool needs more materials.”
“Have you seen Mrs. Gonzales’ daughter? Witwiw! Damn fine…” Jose making a curved sexy body sign. “And hey, I think she likes you!”
“Nahh…”
“You know man, it wouldn’t hurt to go out on dates.” Joe said.
“I know but I wouldn’t want girls to expect something more...now that we have this project. ARAS Architects is at the top of the list.” He lowered his voice and clenched his fist at the mention of the other architectural firm.
“I feel you man, but you’re young and it’s time…”
“Which I don’t have right now.” Andrew trailed off and hurriedly went out of the office.
Andrew took out his phone, took a picture of the big crack on the edge of the pool. He then signaled his foreman and said “Chief, this isn’t going to work…the soil’s too soft we need to cement it deeper.”
The foreman just nodded “Yes sir, here’s the material list for the lanai.” The foreman handed him a piece of paper.
“Andrew, dear!” Mrs. Gonzales shouted and waved at Andrew. “Come here and have some snacks. Join me and Julie here.”
Andrew proceeded to the veranda where the food was being set up.
Mrs. Gonzales handed him his juice. “Dear boy, we had to check as well and we knew you were coming , remember my daughter, Julie?”
Julie smiled “Mom, no need to introduce us we met already.” She smiled sweetly at Andrew. She was an olive skinned girl with wavy long hair. She was slender with breasts seem to large for her small frame.
“Hi Julie. I received your message. Did you have any revisions for your music room?” Andrew asked.
“Yeah that’s why I’m here, I forgot that I wanted the grand piano area to be a bit elevated.” She then positioned her chair to sit closer to Andrew. She wore a salmon pink miniskirt dress that hugged her body tight which Andrew couldn’t help but notice.
He tried to move away a bit but being a gentleman that he is stayed in the same position but making sure he was still in a polite proximity.
“I found these on the internet.” She showed him the pictures and scanning through her iPad.
“Yes I would recommend hardwood tiles to match the ambience.” He suggested.
Mrs. Gonzales interrupted “Andrew, I chance upon ARAS Architects, my friend Mrs. Perez is working with them with their events place, it seems you have the same name with the head architect.”
“He’s my father, Ma’am, and I’d rather not talk about him because it’s too personal.”
“Oh dear, I’m sorry.”
“Thank you for understanding, Mrs. Gonzales. If you don’t mind I really need to go. I need to meet with the suppliers.” He turned his head to Julie. “Julie, let me know before I place orders.”
And he went on his way.
On his way home, while driving, his phone rang. “Hello?”
“I miss you, thank you for the flowers.” Her voice hoarse and almost feels like a whisper.
“How was it today? Did you dream about it again?”
“No, Nurse Sheila kept me up. She showed me videos of gag shows. When will you come home and see me?”
“Soon.”
“I love you, son.”
“Easy on the sweets Ma, Riza told me you bought a box of Belgian chocolates online. Your oncologist tells you to eat healthy.”
“Your cousin is a tattletale. I’m not gonna die of cancer soon, I might die of chocolate deprivation. Hehe. “ His mother chuckled.
“Still…”
“Your father called…”
“I’ll see you tomorrow, love you.” And he hung up.
