Writing Workshop -- Mission Accomplished -- Micro Fiction
Recently we’ve been working on writing third person limited POV (point of view). Our assignment for one of the workshops was:
100 words (more or less) of a scene in 3rd person limited that has at least three characters and includes dialogue from all three.
I took a shot at it and produced this which is about 137 words:
“You want me to wipe that look off your face!”
June stiffened, eyeing the strap in her mother’s hand. One word, twitch, flicker — would launch the war.
The glare from her mother demanded immediate response. June knew that look. Knew it well.
Deep breath and answer very carefully. “Noooo.” The hand drove up and back. June prepared for the snap of leather on skin.
Silence - the battle paused. June dared to look.
Having secured her mother’s wrist, her father looked at June. “Clean that milk up.”
"Yes Dad.” She turned to the sink for the cloth. Resting her hand on it, she paused and glanced toward her parents.
Her mother's dark gaze turned its fury on her dad. He released his grip, letting her hand drop, and stepped back. Her mother moved toward him.
The battle resumed.

It's an interesting challenge to write tightly enough to get the action into a small number of words.
