THE SYNDICATE (a short fiction story)

All my years I have known just one thing and that is to never question any mission given to me by any of my superior, especially from my commander. Years of training had thought me that we were meant to follow orders no matter what it was, even if it meant killing our family.

I have had doubts in my mind, but everything cleared off when the commander gave Thomas the order to eliminate his entire family as in the commanders words, "they were a distraction to him".

Thomas had refused the order and ran away with his family. He would protect them with his life and he would rather die first than kill his family --he always said to himself,he would protect them from THE SYNDICATE.

Three days after eloping with his family, Thomas found himself pointing a gun to the same family he had sworn to protect. The syndicate had located him. He didn't know how they found out about his safe house but they did and after giving him the beating of a life time, they instructed him to shoot his family or they would do it themselves but slowly and of course he must watch.

They called it the easy or the hard way. He would have attempted shooting the men sent by the syndicate but then he knew a sniper was placed on him. He would be dead before he even turned around to pull the trigger.

And so with shaking hands, Thomas picked the gun. It was better they died an easy and fast way than the brutal way the syndicate would do it. So he pulled the trigger, killing everyone if them.

But the syndicate wasn't done with him yet. He had disobeyed a direct order and had to be punished so they killed him too.

All this thoughts crossed through Eric's mind as the beautiful lady who was talking to the waiter smiled at him. He was on a mission, a mission to kill. She was his mission but he was in love.

So Eric made a very wise decision, or a foolish one.

He would protect Sophia no matter what.
