Eerie Grounds (short story-fiction)
As I drove by this field once a week, I would often wonder where
the owner was. There was usually noise coming from the field,
but I never knew from what.
There were three horses and a handful of cows. The cows would
let out strange sounding moo's, but the sound I kept hearing had
not been from them.
One day a heavy fog settled in, and seemed to never lift. My skin
started to crawl as I noticed the animals disappear suddenly. They
were there hours ago, and then vanished. The ground showed no
tire tracks from a trailer being there.
The day I saw a shadow moving in the back field, I felt the hairs on
the back of my neck stand up. Something was calling my name. It
was a whisper and it beckoned me to the field.
Against my better judgement, I climbed out of my car and went to
the fence. I could hear my name softly being called. I crawled in
between the wires and slowly walked around, searching for the
voice I was hearing.
I saw a tractor moving off in the distance. But the whispers sounded
like they came from the house. I slowly walked towards the house.
As I walked around the hay bales, I noticed a few had strange lumps
in them. At further inspection I spotted a few dark patches on them.
Not knowing anything about baling hay, I thought it peculiar. There
was also a strange smell from them. As I was processing it, I walked
up to the door. There was a sudden cold chill hitting my spine that
caught my breath.
I peeked in the door, and as my eyes adjusted to the darkness within,
I found myself gasping for air and eyes bulged. I turned to run away,
but in my state of mind I ran into the field, not away from it.
I turned to hear a tractor coming behind me. The fog was so thick
now, that all I could see was a silhouette of it. I froze in terror for a
few seconds before turning to run in the other direction.
I ran right smack into a shadowy object. Somehow I managed to
run into my car without knowing how it got there. I jumped in it
and started the engine.
As the tractor gained ground, I floored the pedal and drove out of
there. Not a few minutes after, I was free of the fog and terror..

Thank you, and the more I think about it I should have just started with short stories, to build up experience before trying a novel. Am taking my time on the next couple chapters. I'm happy with how this one came out :-) .It played out in my head last night, so I was shocked I remembered it.
The ghosts of the dead people in the hay bales were calling your name! :O

Lol yeah. Fog always creeps me out ever since that movie Fog.
I was thinking more along the lines of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I was waiting to hear the buzz of the saw!
Ohhhh that movie really creeped me out. Not even big on watching horror movies, or gory ones.
Instead of chainsaw there was a tractor, lol. Ugh, now between that and @arbitrarykitten's mattress thing I may not sleep, lol.
Mine is The Mist! Fog used to be my friend until Steven King had his way with my psyche ;)
Lol yeah he is good at that. I can read any of his books, and have seen many of his movies, but IT I draw the line. Not sure if I have seen The Mist. Will google it later.
So much for waiting, lol. I just googled it. I have not and don't plan to, see the Mist. I also did not realize it was not a Stephan King movie. The Fog came out years prior by a John Carpenter in 1980's

Yeah I read that too, lol. The book was written in late 70's too. I posted this story on fb and a coworker said she wants more, lol. Am already thinking of the next one. I better work on the novel first or it will not get completed. I joined a club on fb but dropped out 4 hours later. One guy was getting off subject of books and another was odd. I need to find one here.
